"THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN": RECORD-POISED AND NOW IN-THEATRES!

Andrew Garfield & Mr. Will-W.
How could I forget about this Photo from TIFF 2010 with Andrew Garfield?  Although you couldn't tell he was particularly friendly, I swear he was the nicest.  In fact, he even took two Photos with me, but simply misjudged when to look away from the Camera.

Already pulling-in a whopping $50.2 million Overseas in Germany, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan, South Korea, India and The Philippines, Sony Pictures' The Amazing Spider-Man is set to open wide tomorrow in North America and many are expecting Records to be broken.  Already in South Korea, Spider-Man has bested the performance of Marvel's The Avengers in its debut there, earning $13.4 million there alone.   Public Screenings were made available this evening in Toronto as early as 8:00 PM and soon we'll know the numbers as Fans line their local Cinemas for Midnight Shows.

But are Critics loving it?  Although on the positive side (77% on Rotten Tomatoes), Reviews haven't been overly outstanding.  Toronto Star's Peter Howell feels, "The Amazing Spider-Man is at least better than Raimi's Spider-Man 3, which was a mess".  Rolling Stone's Peter Travers says, "I don't really see why the Spidey reboot was needed right now, but The Amazing Spider-Man has its virtues. Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone are stellar and director Marc Webb has crafted a Spider-Man that touches the heart.".  Time Magazine's Mary F. Pols praises, "None of this is new to us, but Garfield and Webb make it feel convincingly fresh and exciting.".  The Chicago-Sun Times' Roger Ebert states, "If we didn't really need to be told Spidey's origin story again, at least it's done with more detail and provides better reasons for why Peter Parker throws himself into his superhero role.".   In a nutshell, The Amazing Spider-Man tugs more at Heartstrings than rely on technical Trickery.

On a side note, Onlookers at the Thompson Hotel's Rooftop Lounge in Toronto apparently spotted Star and real-life Girlfriend of Spider-Man (Garfield) himself, Emma Stone, earlier this evening.  No word though on whether she's here for Work or Leisure, although it doesn't appear it's so much the former with no scheduled appearances in the City tomorrow.

STARLETS GRACE RED CARPET AT 2012 MET BALL

Hilary Swank, Dakota Fanning, Amy Adams, Emma Stone & Ginnifer Goodwin at 2012 Met Ball
The Schiaparellli and Prada: Impossibly Conversations Costume Institute Gala was held tonight in New York City at the Metropolitan Museum of Art's bringing together Fashion, Art and Starlets on the Red Carpet. Unlike many other Red Carpets throughout the year, this Evening lauds Fashion risks. It's not only about being glamorous, it's about making a statement and being bold.

After perusing some of the beautiful choices made tonight, I must say I am most in-love with Amy Adams in Giambattista Valli Couture. Pure, classic elegance.  Emma Stone never disappoints and looked super-cute in a short Lanvin Number - a proud display of red. Ginnifer Goodwin has hit her best stride at last, rocking her Pixie Cut and a tangerine Monique Lhuillier Gown.  Hilary Swank looked absolutely stunning in  a red Michael Kors Piece, showing us an even softer side of her than ever before; classic Hollywood.  Dakota Fanning also not only looked perfect, but age-appropriate in Louis Vuitton.  Amaze.

Tonight's Gala was chaired by Vogue Editor Anna Wintour, Actress Carey Mulligan and Designer Miuccia Prada.

JIM CARREY & KATHY GRIFFIN POST CREEPY LOVE LETTER VIDEOS

Jim Carrey & Kathy Griffin (Top to Bottom)
Jim Carrey started it all off with a disturbing Video Love Letter to Emma Stone earlier this week and now the amazing Kathy Griffin has jumped on-board, professing her love for Justin Bieber too! But who did creepy better? That is the question!

Among some of the praise for Stone in Carrey’s rants were, “Emma, you are more than pretty. You are all-the-way beautiful”, before going on to tell her, “You are smart, kind-hearted. And if I were a lot younger, I would marry you and we’ve have chubby little freckle-faced kids...”.

Not to be outdone, Griffin in her own Video pledged to Bieber, “If I could I would marry you... we would have kids...”, crossing one more step over-the-line saying, “We should just get hotel”. LOL

THE CAST OF "THE HELP" WALK RED CARPET AT BEVERLY HILLS PREMIERE

The Cast of The Help
The Red Carpet Premiere of Dreamworks/Disney's The Help was held last night at The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills and the entire Principal Cast showed up! Gorgeous.

Are Bryce Dallas Howard and Jessica Chastain (far right, front row) toying with us by standing beside one another?  Both Actresses often are confused for the other and maybe after this Film's released we'll finally be able to get it right!

THE HELP - MOVIE REVIEW

Still from The Help
Set in the 1960s at the height of the African-American Civil Rights Movement, The Help is based upon the best-selling Novel of the same name by Author Kathryn Stockett. The Story centers around Skeeter (Emma Stone) who returns home to an oppressive Jackson, Mississippi after completing College studies with the aspirations of becoming a Writer. Getting a job at a local Newspaper, originally she is hired as a Ghostwriter for a mundane Housekeeping Column.

After learning that her Mother Charlotte (Allison Janney) mysteriously dismisses the Maid who helped raise her Constantine (Cicely Tyson), Skeeter becomes fixated on some of the blatant social injustices these Black Maids face even at the hands of Skeeter's own Society-type Peers.  Secretly, Skeeter enlists the help of Aibileen (Viola Davis) who is the Maid of her Friend Ahna (Elizabeth Leefolt), to compile a shocking Tell-All based upon first-hand accounts from these Women's experiences with their Employers.

Writing this Book however, isn't an easy task as Skeeter must gain the trust of Aibileen and also other Maids like the fearful Minny (Octavia Spencer), who is at the mercy of tyrannical and influencial Employer Hilly Holbrook; Hilly also happens to be a Friend of SkeeterThe Help focuses on the story of Skeeter, Minny and Aibileen - three Women who are brought together by the division that comes with Racial Segregation.  Ironically, they also are connected together on a much deeper level by the injustices of this division in this thoughtful look at a pivotal point in American History.

Although Director/Writer Tate Taylor might not be a familiar name now, he will more than likely be remembered for this career-defining piece.  The Help brings together one of the strongest Female Ensemble Casts perhaps since 2002's The Hours and together with Author Stockett, Taylor gives these Actresses some meaty material to work with.

CRAZY STUPID LOVE. - MOVIE REVIEW

Still from Crazy Stupid Love.
Widely-regarded as one of the most anticipated Rom-Coms of 2011, Crazy Stupid Love. delivers every bit of promise that it hints. This complicated Love Story centers around a married Couple, Cal (Steve Carell) and Emily (Julianne Moore), who are set to divorce after she cheats on him with a Co-worker of hers, David (Kevin Bacon). This of course impacts their two young Children Robbie (Jonah Bobo) and Molly (Joey King) but Cal especially struggles being in his mid-40s and now forced to re-enter the Dating scene again. He lacks the social graces to be at any type of an advantage after marrying young and never dating anybody else other than Emily.

Cal comes across handsome Playboy Jacob (Ryan Gosling) at a bar one night and under that one’s tutelage, his life is turned around, undergoing a Makeover and projecting a confident approach with Women. Despite appearing better off, Cal still however, is lonely. Both he and Emily realize that perhaps a Divorce might not be the best answer to their problems. Along the way, Jacob meets vivacious young Lawyer Hannah (Emma Stone) who just might be the one to trigger a change to his Playboy lifestyle. Is it too late for Cal though and has he veered too far off-path that their Marriage is now irreparable?

ANDREW GARFIELD AT COMIC-CON FOR "THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN"

Andrew Garfield at TIFF 2010
With the Trailer for The Amazing Spider-Man (due July 2012 via Sony Pictures) surfacing the other day, many Fans including myself are asking the question - why they have to re-tell Peter Parker's transformation to Spider-Man all over again?  Although this question remains to be answered, the entire Cast including Emma Stone and Director Marc Webb, made an appearance earlier today  at Comic-Con in San Diego.  Star Andrew Garfield even showed-up dressed as Spider-Man - enough of a distraction from the burning question ...for me at least!

Garfield had nothing by praise for Tobey Maguire's interpretation of the coveted role telling attendees, “When I watch that first Spidey film, I lost my mind. I watched it back to back, twice in a row when I first saw it.”.  He also confirmed that Maguire has been supportive, revealing “He (Maguire) gave me his blessing. It meant the world to me, because I respect him so much in general and also what he did with the role.".

"THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN" TRAILER SURFACES

Still from The Amazing Spider-Man
The Trailer for 2012's The Amazing Spider-Man has finally surfaced and this Reboot appears to be a bit darker than 2002's Spider-Man.  Although I fear Motion Sickness, the first-person Camera sequence seen in this Trailer is mighty cool, I must say.  Andrew Garfield really looks like he's giving it his all here and Emma Stone, whom I am hearing a lot of great things about for her work in Disney's The Help, as always is great to see.  The Amazing Spider-Man opens in theatres July 3, 2012.

EMMA STONE COVERS AUGUST 2011 ISSUE OF "VANITY FAIR"

Emma Stone on August 2011 issue of Vanity Fair
Must have. A Blonde Emma Stone stone covers the August issue of Vanity Fair with stunning Photos by Patrick Demarchelier. Stone tells Alexandra Wolfe about a Paparazzo who tried striking a deal with her, telling her "‘If you ever go to the beach with your friends or walk out of your house in your pajamas, call me'". She says, "These guys try to strike up a deal with you so you feel like they’re your friend. I didn’t even know that was a thing—that people would call them.”.

Stone also talks about auditioning for NBC's Heroes in a role which went eventually to Hayden Panettiere, her addiction to FarmVille and her Spider-Man Diet.  Read more here.

EMMA STONE TO STAR IN "PRIDE AND PREJUDICE AND ZOMBIES"

Craig Gillespie & Mr. Will-W. - TIFF 2007
Although Natalie Portman will be busy being a Mom this next while, this won’t stop her from being involved as a Producer of her upcoming Project, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. Portman initially was believed to star in the adaptation of the 2009 Parody Novel of the same title by Seth Grahame-Smith for Lionsgate Films.  As reported by Variety Magazine, the part now will be going to Easy A Star Emma Stone who quickly has found herself catapulted to the A-list over the past two years.

Craig Gillespie who directed TIFF 2007 hit Lars and the Real Girl and upcoming Disney Comedy-Horror Fright Night with Colin Farrell, is attached to Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. I did meet the friendly Gillespie here in Toronto while he was here for Lars (only his second Feature Film) and despite being from Australia, he actually sounded more American after having moved to New York when he was 19. A Film to keep a tab on - although it won't be out until 2013.

ROBERT PATTINSON & TAYLOR LAUTNER SHARE KISS AT 2011 MTV MOVIE AWARDS

Taylor Lautner & Robert Pattinson kiss at 2011 MTV Movie Awards
In what will be remembered as the most shockingly defining moment of the 2011 MTV Movie Awards, Robert Pattinson went into the audience where The Twilight Saga Co-star Taylor Lautner was sitting... and kissed him!  After much speculation that tonight would be the first time in which Pattinson and Girlfriend/Co-Star Kristen Stewart would be kissing publicly upon receiving their award for Best Kiss, Pattinson managed to break the tension successfully with his surprise move.  Pattinson also won Best Male Performance for The Twilight Saga: Eclipse.

Jason Sudeikis of NBC's Saturday Night Live hosted for the first-time ever providing for several awkward moments, including making reference to Blake Lively's recent Nude Photo Scandal when introducing her and  Green Lantern Co-star Ryan Reynolds on-stage as Presenters.

Reese Witherspoon who received the MTV Generation Award for her body of work, gave younger Actresses a bit of advice, "If you're gonna take nude photos of yourself, cover your face!".  Calling, Blake Lively....

Other Winners this evening included Chloë Grace Moretz for Best Breakout Star in Kick-Ass, Emma Stone for Best Comedic Performance in Easy A, Justin Bieber for Most Jaw Dropping Moment in Never Say Never and Kristen Stewart for Best Female Performance in The Twilight Saga: Eclipse.  The Twilight Saga: Eclipse garnered a total five Awards, leading all nominees in wins, including the top Award of the evening, Best Movie.

KATHRYN STOCKETT PROMOTES "THE HELP" AT TORONTO'S INDIGO MANULIFE CENTRE

Kathryn Stockett at Indigo Manulife Centre
Although I've been going on about it for a bit, Toronto was graced with the presence of Kathryn Stockett, Author of both The Los Angeles and New York Times Best Seller, The Help. Although Disney won't be releasing the Film Adaption of her 2009 semi-Autobiographical Novel until August 12, 2011, Stockett surely is enjoying the added boost in profile of late.

Born and raised in Jackson, Mississippi, Stockett was raised by an African-American Nanny while her Birth Mother generally was absent from her life. Her Novel explores Racial and Socio-economic tensions in Mississippi during the '60s. The Story's Heroine Skeeter (to be played by Emma Stone) is a College Graduate who returns Home to find that one of the Maids who had helped raise her, has disappeared mysteriously.

Drawing upon her own upbringing, Stockett was interviewed by Heather Reisman before an intimate audience at Indigo Manulife Centre tonight.  She recalls telling herself "This is Bullshit", after coming to the realization just how prevalent racial discrimination had been in Jackson.   Stockett also indicated that she had been careful to distance herself from the Story just enough, revealing "I didn't want to make it a Story just about me", explaining why she chose to explore a different era then the one in which she had grown-up.

Order Stockett's The Help here.

NEW TRAILER FOR "THE HELP" STARRING EMMA STONE

Just days after releasing those new Stills from Disney's The Help, this two and a half-minute Trailer surfaces today for the Movie. Ooh - just watch Bryce Dallas Howard get all up in the Drama with Emma Stone  - pure Ginger Fire.

Viola Davis then lays the Smackdown on troublesome Howard, telling her with Southern conviction, "You are a Godless Woman".  Somebody please fan me down because it sure gets hot down in Mississippi.

The Help hits theatres this August.
