LADY GAGA COVERS SEPTEMBER 2012 ISSUE OF "VOGUE"

Lady Gaga on September 2012 Issue of Vogue
As that all-important September Issue of Vogue is set to hit newsstands soon, Lady Gaga gives us a taste of what glamour we can come to expect.  With Photos by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott, Gaga with the styling of Grace Coddington (Creative Director, Vogue U.S.), dons some creations by Marc Jacobs, Steven Jones and more.

On her Music, Gaga tells Vogue, "I don’t really make records for people to listen to and go, ‘Wow, she’s a genius. I’d really like you to order a drink, maybe kiss the person you came with that evening, or rediscover something about your past that makes you feel even more brave.".

This is Gaga's second Cover appearance on the Fashion Bible and although surely Editor Anna Wintour can't be pleased that she already is leaking Photos to Fans, Mother Monster has no apologies for it, Tweeting "Sorry Anna, but the underground kids deserve it. Bisous!".

Rumours are this will be the biggest Issue of Vogue yet, with several guesses exceeding the 900-page mark!  The Issue hits newsstands August 14, 2012.

STARLETS GRACE RED CARPET AT 2012 MET BALL

Hilary Swank, Dakota Fanning, Amy Adams, Emma Stone & Ginnifer Goodwin at 2012 Met Ball
The Schiaparellli and Prada: Impossibly Conversations Costume Institute Gala was held tonight in New York City at the Metropolitan Museum of Art's bringing together Fashion, Art and Starlets on the Red Carpet. Unlike many other Red Carpets throughout the year, this Evening lauds Fashion risks. It's not only about being glamorous, it's about making a statement and being bold.

After perusing some of the beautiful choices made tonight, I must say I am most in-love with Amy Adams in Giambattista Valli Couture. Pure, classic elegance.  Emma Stone never disappoints and looked super-cute in a short Lanvin Number - a proud display of red. Ginnifer Goodwin has hit her best stride at last, rocking her Pixie Cut and a tangerine Monique Lhuillier Gown.  Hilary Swank looked absolutely stunning in  a red Michael Kors Piece, showing us an even softer side of her than ever before; classic Hollywood.  Dakota Fanning also not only looked perfect, but age-appropriate in Louis Vuitton.  Amaze.

Tonight's Gala was chaired by Vogue Editor Anna Wintour, Actress Carey Mulligan and Designer Miuccia Prada.

KATY PERRY IN MAY 2012 ISSUE OF "TEEN VOGUE"

Katy Perry in Teen Vogue - May 2012
I actually will watch this! The lovely and gracious Katy Perry is set to release her 3-D Concert Movie Part of Me via Paramout Pictures and this Trailer promises to give us insight into her troubled rise to the Pop Top and maybe even dish a little on her broken Marriage to Russell Brand? "Thank you for embracing my weirdness" she tells a sold-out Arena near the end of this Trailer.

Perry also reveals to Teen Vogue intheir May 2012 Issue, that she at one point in-the-running for a small role in The Help, however the promotional schedule for her Disc Teenage Dream conflicted with filming.  How amaze would it have been to see her in that Oscar-nominated Film?  She also says that Madonna's Documentary Truth or Dare was the inspiration behind this upcoming Concert MovieAlthough fortunately Perry wasn't harassed by the Toronto Police like Madonna was for performing "lewd acts" on-stage.

Watch the Trailer below:

Katy Perry: Part of Me 3-D opens July 5, 2012 on what will be a busy Memorial Day Weekend at the Box Office up against Oliver Stone Thriller Savages (John Travolta, Uma Thurman, Blake Lively, Taylor Kitsch) and The Amazing Spider-Man (Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone).

ADELE COVERS MARCH 2012 ISSUE OF "VOGUE"

Adele - March 2012 Issue of Vogue
Adele covers the March 2012 issue of Vogue and opens up to Jonathan Van Meter about an array of personal matters. Photographed by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott, the eight-time GRAMMY Winner is raising some concerns that the Photos might appear too enhanced and that not enough of her personality can be seen.  Perhaps some have forgotten that this is a Fashion Magazine?

The Singer reveals that formerly a big Drinker, she now has quit Alcohol. "Don’t like drinking anymore. I think I got it out of my system. D’yaknowhaImean?", she says. We learn that upon learning that she had to undergo Surgery, she did a lot of crying, but then looked to the likes of John Mayer who also underwent a similar procedure around the same time, and felt a lot better, seeing how calmly he handled the situation.

While doing her Photoshoot, we learn that Adele's 37-year-old Boyfriend Simon Konecki (described as "bearish") was there to watch over her.  She tells Van Meter, "He’s proud of me, but he don’t care about what I do or what other people think. He looks after me. I don’t think I would have gotten through the recovery for my surgery if it hadn’t been for him.".  Sounds a lot healthier than her last relationship, which inspired Album of the Year, 21!

Adele also goes on at length about her admiration for Beyoncé and indicated that she sees at least six to seven Movies a week.  Her favourites include The Godfather, Scarface, Dog Day Afternoon, Scent of a Woman. Perhaps we'll see some acting from her in the future?

Cast of Glee
Lucky New Yorkers! The third annual Fashion's Night Out will be taking place on Thursday, September 8, 2011 in New York City, allowing Fashion-conscious Shoppers to mingle with Celebrities and Designers and also watch some performances.  Among those taking part this year are the Cast of Glee!

In the September 2011 issue of Vogue, you will find an awesome Photo of the Glee Cast by Norman Jean Roy for the Event itself.

Glee Creator Ryan Murphy tells Lynn Yaeger, "When I met Lea (Michele), she was only sort of interested in clothes¬but in the last two years she’s become a Red-Carpet Star. I think what happened is Lea went to an event, and someone said, ‘Oh, you look pretty.’ It was an interesting moment for her.”.

Chris Colfer admits in his younger days to shopping pretty frugally, but now on the Series he is the only Cast member who gets to wear Designer labels. Colfer says, "I did all my shopping at my small-town Target. Maybe if I dressed better I wouldn’t have had such a hard time in school.".

BILL CUNNINGHAM NEW YORK - MOVIE REVIEW

Still from Bill Cunningham New York
Best Documentary ever. Bill Cunningham New York by Director Richard Press, chronicles The New York Times' most celebrated Fashion Photographer. Now in his 80s, Cunningham is still going strong with his keen eye for Style, accumulating visual documentation of Fashion Trends in Manhattan for the past 40 to 50 years.

He revolutionized Street Fashion as we know it today and despite having had many chances to profit he instead lives a modest lifestyle of $3.00 Breakfast Sandwiches, a simple Uniform and opting to commute via Bicycle. He attends Church every Sunday and has never found Love. He is however, married to his Work. A true inspiration.

Along the way, we get the opinions of other Fashion Icons and how they feel about him.  Vogue Editor Anna Wintour confesses her craving his approval, equating being ignored by him as "like death" and  she states, "We all dress for Bill".  We get to witness Cunningham at-work in addition to seeing many highlights of his Body of Work.  He even receives the prestigious honour of Officier de l'ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the French Ministry of Culture in Paris, graciously accepting the Award in French and paying tribute to Beauty.

Bill Cunningham New York is a fascinating Film and although it is only in Limited Release, I hope that you find an opportunity to see it. Seeing him smile with Child-like fascination every time a new Fashion Fnd crosses his path and Camera Lens, is quite possibly one of the most unadulterated and beautiful things I have ever seen.  My Hero.

ANNA DELLO RUSSO IN TORONTO FOR THE BAY'S "WHEN TOMMY MET ANNA" EXHIBIT

Anna Dello Russo & Tommy Ton at When Tommy Met Anna Exhibit
Vogue Japan Editor at Large and self-proclaimed Fashion Collector/Maniac Anna Dello Russo made a rare visit to Toronto Tuesday afternoon. Officially a part of this year's Scotiabank Contact Photography Festival, Toronto Fashion Photoblogger Tommy Ton's When Tommy Met Anna Exhibit at The Bay - Queen Street's The Room, is one of the more high-profiled this year. Some of you might know Ton from his widely-read Blog, Jak & Jil?

Known as the "Lady Gaga of Fashion Week", Milan's Dello Russo has come to be defined by her unique and quirky sense of style. More recently she has been noted for incorporating fruits among other edibles into her look. She tells Marilyn Denis this morning on her CTV Television Show, "You should not be afraid to look like a Clown", donning a pink 1950s-inspired frock by Giles Deacon.

SUPERMODEL CHANEL IMAN IN TORONTO FOR VICTORIA'S SECRET

Mr. Will-W. & Chanel Iman
In 2007, Vogue's Anna Wintour called her "one of the world's next top Supermodels" and she actually now has fulfilled that prediction less than three years later. 20 year-old Chanel Iman after having been in the business for seven years, has seen a meteoric rise to the top of the Fashion world in less than seven years.

Alexander McQueen, Marc Jacobs, Versace, Dolce & Gabanna, Valentino, John Galliano, Vera Wang, Stella McCartney. These are just a few of the Fashion Houses which have handpicked Iman to don their pieces on the Runway. And just last year, she had received her much-heralded Angel Wings, making her officially a Victoria's Secret Angel.

Now residing in New York City, Iman is known as the most prolific African-American Models of her generation. In fact, she is only the third Black Model ever to have graced the cover of Vogue and at the same time, she holds the distinction of being the youngest Model ever to have appeared on its cover.

Did I mention she's also an avid Philanthropist too? Iman is known too for her support of the HerShe Foundation for Teen Girls who come from Foster Homes, helping them transition into Society.

The Angel herself has descended upon Toronto officially and she's in-town to do some Press tomorrow including appearances on CTV's The Marilyn Denis Show and a more publicized Meet & Greet at newly-launched Victoria's Secret - Eaton Centre between 4 to 6 PM. The visit is Iman's second in recent months.

NATALIE PORTMAN ON JANUARY ISSUE OF VOGUE

Natalie Portman on January 2011 issue of Vogue
Vogue has finally published Joan Juliet Buck's Interview with Natalie Portman online, hot on the heels of her Golden Globe nomination this morning for Black Swan.   She also was just awarded Best Actress by the Boston Society of Film Critics and New York Film Critics Online this weekend too, plus garnering a nod in the Broadcast Film Critics Assocation Awards. In the fascinating Write-up we learn about her Dietary habits - she is a Vegan when dining out and a Vegetarian at home - and also her Role Models, plus what we can expect from her down-the-pipe.

Portman and her business partner Annette Savitch have developed a production company, Handsomecharlie Films, named in memory of her now-deceased Dog Charlie, which she brought on David Letterman some years ago.  She vows to produce more Female Comedies as she feels "there just aren't enough of them".

You can also learn about her training regimen while preparing for her role as Nina in Black Swan, revealing she was on a Diet of Coffee and Ibuprofen, sleeping five hours a night.  She tells Buck, "Your body is in constant pain.”

Interestingly also, we learn that Portman went under her real surname Hershlag, while studying at Harvard, which helped others around her forget who she was.  She is adamant about not letting Fame dictate her life.  Fascinating stuff.

ANNE HATHAWAY IN NOVEMBER ISSUE OF VOGUE

Anne Hathaway on November issue of Vogue
Have you ever seen anything more lovely than Anne Hathaway?  The brilliant and beautiful actress covers the November issue of Vogue in a photo spread by the amazing Mario Testino and interview by Adam Green

Hathaway reveals in the interesting piece that when Dating, "there’s that pressure to be the most, to be more comfortable and open than anyone else. When you finally realize that you can just be your own scared, fucked-up self and that you can still be sexy without trying to be, it’s such a great relief".  And it's that down-to-earthness that keeps us coming back for more.

Having seen her in-person on a couple occasions, I can vouch that she is just wonderful.  The kind of Actress who shows up to her Movie Premieres almost an hour early to do Press and greet her fans. It is little wonder why we rarely hear about her in Tabloids because she doesn't need that type of Publicity.  She truly is talented and people are drawn to her for that.  Okay, I guess it doesn't hurt that she's incredibly stunning too.

Hathaway can be seen in the upcoming Romantic Comedy/Drama Love and Other Drugs alongside Jake Gyllenhaal which will be released November 26, 2010.  She wrapped production recently on An Education Director Lone Scherfig's One Day alongside Jim Sturgess in Paris.

JENNIFER LOPEZ IN VOGUE ITALIA

Yes, that's Jennifer Lopez in the May issue of Vogue Italia in fine form as usual.  Lopez recently did a photo shoot with Michaelangelo Di Battista for the magazine and she is currently in the studio recording new tracks for her already completed Island/Def Jam debut Love?.  Although her latest film The Back-Up Plan was a bit of a loss for CBS Films, it is still performing quite consistently at the Box Office sitting in fifth spot this weekend, earning just shy of $30 million in its third week of release.

REVIEW: THE SEPTEMBER ISSUE

R. J. Cutler's The September Issue was screened as part of Toronto's LG Fashionweek festivities last night. The documentary centers around the creative processes behind the most important issue of the year for fashion authority Vogue. We also see firsthand, editor Anna Wintour's meticulous involvement overseeing it all. The audience gets a behind-the-scenes peek at the many creative differences that often surface over the final approval process including photo conceptualization, selection and placement.

Wintour is said notoriously to be uncompromising and extremely particular according to fashion industry insiders. She is rumoured to be so difficult in fact, that a top-selling novel by Lauren Weisberger and successful film adaptation, The Devil Wears Prada have been made on the matter. In The September Issue, we get glimpses of Wintour's personal life where we learn about her upbringing in a very Victorian home where she interacted little with her parents. In contrast, we also see her interact with her daughter Bee Shaffer lovingly. Shaffer surprisingly has no aspirations to be in the fashion industry instead wanting to break into the legal profession. Later in the film, we see Wintour on the verge of tears when she talks about her relentless need to be respected by her sibilings. Although she has been called the single most important figure in the fashion industry, it is clear that she still feels she has much to prove to her own family. Heartbreaking.

We also get to know Grace Coddington, a former model whose career ended after a tragic car accident which resulted in her requiring corrective plastic surgery. Coddington went on to become the Creative Director at American Vogue. There is no question that she is the heart and soul behind the magazine after watching this documentary. The audience watches her internalize each creative rejection from Wintour. Her vision is dead-focussed and we cannot help but feel for her seeing her pour her heart into the conceptualization process, only to have ideas ix-nayed in the end. We learn through Coddington that introducing celebrities as feature subjects in Vogue was actually Wintour's idea and being a bit of a puritan herself, Coddington still seems very much against this idea. The audience quickly sees why this is the case when the team at Vogue exerts quite the joint effort in making September 2007 issue covergirl Sienna Miller look glamorous. Regardless though, Wintour and Coddington are a winning team - the former balancing the business aspect of the magazine, the latter balancing the creative.

NINE: AN EARLY LOOK

NINE from choreographer-turned-director Rob Marshall, might not be opening until December 25, 2009 but here's a gorgeous shot photographer Annie Leibovitz got of the film's sexy female cast on-set last December. The photo can be found along with a fantastic write-up by Plum Sykes' (Bergdorf Blondes) in the November issue of Vogue (U.S.).

The musical is based on the life of Italian director Guido Contini played by the always excellent Daniel Day-Lewis. It is adapted from director Federico Fellini's acclaimed film and centers around the Contini's struggles to balance the many important women in his life in addition to some creative roadblocks he faces as a filmmaker reaching a midlife crisis. The Weinstein Company film boasts a female cast of Marion Cotillard, Nicole Kidman, Penélope Cruz, Judi Dench, Sophia Loren, Kate Hudson and recording artist Fergie.

In Sykes' write-up we learn many fun things about the cast. Apparently Cruz, Hudson and Fergie shared a flat together while filming and they would go on four hour eating binges after a rigorous day on-set. Fergie had to gain weight for the role of Contini's prostitute lover and ate strictly fried foods. And Cotillard had nothing but praise for Day-Lewis in saying that his technique inspired and brought out the best in the ladies. This coming from one Oscar winner to another.

As often is the case with all-star cast films, too many storylines can lead to muddiness, but I'm banking on this one being a winner. Although he is relatively new as a director, I am already a huge fan of Marshall's Oscar-winning CHICAGO and misguided Memoirs of a Geisha. Rob Marshall can do no wrong in my books. Can't wait.
