Certifiably a hit already, USA Network's new Legal Drama series Suits debuted in late June with an impressive 4.6 million viewers.  Its star however, is a familiar face and you've seen him in movies like The Spirit, Love and Other Drugs, The Good Shepherd and Whiteout.  Hunky and handsome Gabriel Macht has been in Toronto since April working on the series which wraps  production mid-August. Some might not recognize the blond around town especially with the dark brown hair he now is sporting.

Playing the lead role of Harvey Specter, Macht plays one of New York City's top Lawyers who teams with an Associate, Mike Ross (Patrick J. Adams) who actually never went to Harvard even though he is forced to conceal this. Macht was kind enough to sign a Photo for my Readers a while back and with the buzz now building for Suits, I thought I'd give you guys a chance to win it!  I remember his Handler kept joking to me, "Don't confuse him for Brad Pitt, you know!  It happens all the time!".

DISNEY'S "TANGLED 3-D" CLIMBS TO #1 AT BOX OFFICE

It was a tight finish at the Box Office this weekend with Disney's Tangled 3-D coming out on-top, a rarity in that it debuted at number two Thanksgiving Weekend behind Warner Bros.' Harry Potter & The Deathly Hallows.  The updated spin on The Brothers Grimm's Rapunzel brought in $21.5 million from 3,603 theatres.  Harry Potter's latest installment continues to go strong in its third week of release, with $16.7 million from 4,125 theatres.

Surprisingly, Burlesque also experienced a bit of a spike, landing in third spot this weekend with $6.3 million, bringing its total to $27 million for Sony Screen Gems.   Anne Hathaway and Jake Gyllenhaal's Love and Other Drugs in its second week brought in $6 million, good enough to place it in fifth spot.

Due Date in its fifth week is hanging tough in seventh spot this weekend, bringing in $4.1 million, bringing its total gross just past the $90 million mark domestically - a profitable venture for its studio.

The only other debut in this weekend's Top Ten was Relativity Media's The Warrior's Way which brought in $2.6 million from 1,622 theatres.

All eyes however, are on the big Oscar contenders which are still bubbling-under in Limited Release.  Fox Searchlight has a strong pair in 127 Hours and Black Swan.  The former brought in a decent $500,000 from 433 theatres, although the real success story for the studio is the latter, which from only 18 theatres earned $1.4 million.  Meanwhile The Weinstein Co.'s Best Picture candidate The King's Speech earned $85,000 from a paltry six theatres, enough to keep that buzz afloat.  And after a prolonged wait, Jim Carrey and Ewan McGregor's Gay-themed Romantic Comedy I Love Your, Phillip Morris finally surfaced in six theatres with $30,000 earned.

"LOVE AND OTHER DRUGS" REVIEW

Based on the Memoir Hard Sell: The Evolution of a Viagra Salesman by Jamie Reidy (played by Jake Gyllenhaal) on his passionate relationship with girlfriend Maggie Murdock (Anne Hathaway), Edward Zwick's Love and Other Drugs examines the darker complexities of Love. Jamie is a promiscuous Playboy, unsure of his direction in life - other than looking for that next girl to bed.  He lands a job as a salesman for the anti-depressant Zoloft, with pharmaceutical corporation Pfizer. Realizing quickly that he too can use his good looks and charm to his advantage in this industry, Jamie gets in good with the female Receptionists of influencial Physicians.

While at the office of Dr. Stan Knight (Hank Azaria) one day, Jamie meets the alluring yet guarded Maggie, finally meeting his match after much experience in Womanizing. Only 26 years-old, Maggie is diagnosed with Stage One Parkinson's Disease but this does not stop him from pursuing her.  She however, almost is certain in her belief that she is un-dateable as a result of her debilitating illness.

In a case of perfect timing, Jamie champions the miracle sex drug Viagra, developed by Pfizer at the time, and sees his profile sky-rocketing as curiosity and interest in the drug peaks. At the same time, his relationship with Maggie becomes strained, as she wills her self-defeat into existence and ultimately pushes Jamie away.  Will Jamie and Maggie's relationship succumb to the pressures of his career and the inevitable consequences of Parkinson's Disease?

Two of my favourites, Anne Hathaway and Jake Gyllenhaal turned up the temperatures at last night's Hollywood Premiere of Love & Other Drugs.  Hathaway wore a sleek Dress by Antonio Berardi, which is refreshing since we've seen her in a lot of black recently.

Early reviews of the film are surfacing just now despite a Press Embargo.  Justin Chang of Variety noted that Love & Other Drugs is "snappy, saucy and, like any overzealous product-pusher, rather too eager to please".  Ouch.  The film is out November 24, 2010 and Hathaway is getting lots of buzz for her performance as the guarded love interest of a Viagara salesman (Gyllenhaal).  It is said that her character has Parkinson's Disease the film.

ANNE HATHAWAY IN NOVEMBER ISSUE OF VOGUE

Have you ever seen anything more lovely than Anne Hathaway?  The brilliant and beautiful actress covers the November issue of Vogue in a photo spread by the amazing Mario Testino and interview by Adam Green. 

Hathaway reveals in the interesting piece that when Dating, "there’s that pressure to be the most, to be more comfortable and open than anyone else. When you finally realize that you can just be your own scared, fucked-up self and that you can still be sexy without trying to be, it’s such a great relief".  And it's that down-to-earthness that keeps us coming back for more.

Having seen her in-person on a couple occasions, I can vouch that she is just wonderful.  The kind of Actress who shows up to her Movie Premieres almost an hour early to do Press and greet her fans. It is little wonder why we rarely hear about her in Tabloids because she doesn't need that type of Publicity.  She truly is talented and people are drawn to her for that.  Okay, I guess it doesn't hurt that she's incredibly stunning too.

Hathaway can be seen in the upcoming Romantic Comedy/Drama Love and Other Drugs alongside Jake Gyllenhaal which will be released November 26, 2010.  She wrapped production recently on An Education Director Lone Scherfig's One Day alongside Jim Sturgess in Paris.

MR. WILL-W.'S EARLY OSCAR PREDICTIONS - OCTOBER 2010

Although not quite as formula-based as my girl Sasha predictions are over at Awards Daily, Mr. Will-W.:Pop Maven is known to have picked an Oscar winner or two in the past.  Even though the big day isn't until Sunday, March 5, 2011, I will break down for you who I feel is in-contention for a nomination in the major categories.   Obviously, there are a few contenders which I have not seen yet, so I have denoted these with an asterisk.  The names in bold are the contenders I feel have the greatest chance of winning the actual Oscar.  Selections are subject to change and I'll probably re-jig this again closer to the end of the year.

LOVE AND OTHER DRUGS POSTER

Well, Hello. Who agrees with me that there are too many pillows in this photo? 

Global Television just leaked this positively provocative poster for Love and Other Drugs. The film, directed by Edward Zwick (Blood Diamond, The Last Samurai) although seemingly not the stuff of Oscars, is actually getting a bit of buzz especially for its star Anne Hathaway's performance.  It is based on the memoir Hard Sell: The Evolution of a Viagra Salesman by Jamie Reidy and his intense relationship with Maggie Murdock, who apparently suffered from Parkinson's Disease.

Although I was hoping v. much for this one to do the Festival rounds at TIFF, it looks like we'll have to wait for November 24, 2010 to see more. 

TWO DEGREES OF JAKE - TRAILERS FOR "HOW DO YOU KNOW" AND "LOVE AND OTHER DRUGS"

Two complicated romantic comedies. Two degrees of separation from Jake.  Jake Gyllenhaal reunites with Brokeback Mountain wife Anne Hathaway in the upcoming Love and Other Drugs, a true story about a flirtatious Viagra salesman who falls for a girl who knows his game. Matters get complicated when he gets successful and women find him increasingly desirable, but he must stay committed to the woman he really loves. I love both Gyllenhaal and Hathaway, but cannot deny I cringed a couple times at the did-that/done-that bits in the trailer. Love and Other Drugs hits theatres November 24, 2010. Trailer below:

Gyllenhaal's ex-girlfriend, Oscar winner Reese Witherspoon also has a trick or two up her sleeve to with her Holiday release How Do You Know starring Paul Rudd, Jack Nicholson and Owen Wilson. The story revolves around a woman caught between her love for two men, one who is willing to bend over backwards for her (Wilson) and one who she reunites with by chance, who is in legal trouble (Rudd).  I don't see what the issue is here.  Are you kidding me?  Pick Paul!   Nobody can resist those blue eyes and a bad boy in legal trouble.  Nobody!  Trailer below:
