Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer has just confirmed that it has closed a deal with Swedish-American Actor Joel Kinnaman to take the Lead Role in an upcoming Remake of 1987's Robocop, to be made in Toronto.  The Sci-Fi/Action film centers around a Police Officer who is killed brutally, but then brought-back as a Cyborg. Kinnaman most recently was seen in AMC's The Killing and recent Box Office successes, Safe House and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. It is said also that he was in-the-running for the starring role in both Thor and Mad Max 4.

Brazillian Director José Padilha will be helming this Remake which went-on to make $53 million also for MGM, before two more Films in the Franchise were released.

RoboCop and Toronto do have a bit of a history.  In the mid-'90s, CTV's RoboCop: The Series was filmed throughout Toronto and Mississauga, although its run was short-lived, ending after 22 episodes.

Filming dates still are not confirmed, but this is a bit of excitement for Toronto's Film Industry at long last!
