Summers for me always have been defined by Songs. The trigger of hearing a Track instantaneously can prompt a chain reaction of memories and place me in a mood, even if momentarily. Although we’re only into late May, our iPods and Airwaves already have been infiltrated by a bevy a solid Summer Tunes and here are my Top Five!

1. Karmin – Brokenhearted

Although it took me several listens to enjoy, this Los Angeles-based Real Life Couple have me clicking repeat with this infectious number which received a major profile boost with their appearance on Saturday Night Live earlier this year. Their signature rap-singing, Electropop takes an edgy concept and spreads it to a mass audience.

2. Nicki Minaj – Starships

Thanks to Lady Gaga, RedOne has been placed internationally on-the-map as a Game Changer in Pop Music and to this day he remains a force to be dealt with as the Pop Elite clamour to collaborate with him. Anyone who listens to Starships needs little explanation why this rightfully is "The Song of Summer 2012". It has a widely international sound and Minaj is improving leaps and bounds as a Vocalist - at least on-recording. A starship quite literally has risen.

I'm totally loving this new Era of Jennifer Lopez and her latest Track reunites her with Pitbull once again after the massive success of their On the Floor. Produced and written by RedOne whose work sounds inspired once again on this Track, this is bringing Pop Music back to where it should be - melody-centered and catchy. I don't know what Lopez has been doing but she sounds awesome - a vast improvement from her the Music from her J.Lo Era!

Fans of On the Floor will love this Track, which will be released digitally April 12, 2012.

He's pretty much one of the hottest names in both Hip-Hop and Pop Music right now with one of Summer 2011's biggest smash hits, Give Me Everything (ft. Ne-Yo, Nayer and Afrojack).  The Track off his sixth Disc Planet Pit, has reached the summit of both the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and the Canadian Hot 100  and certifiably is an international hit reaching the Top Ten on over 25 charts around the World.

The Miami-born Cuban-American arrived in Toronto bright and early today for his appearance on Z1035's Summer Rush at Canada's Wonderland.  He played a similar show with his Backing Band last night for its Sister Station in Halifax last night.

Despite being rushed by a Handler, Pitbull generously stopped to say "hi" to Fans waiting for him at Toronto Pearson International Airport and also those gobsmacked passersby who were shocked to see him.  And he even signed a Photo for my Readers!

Mohombi at MuchMusic - February 2011

“Mo who?”. That’s the initial reaction I get when I recite the name Mohombi. The Dancehall-Pop Singer who was born in Senegal  but exported to Sweden at the age of 14, is ready to launch his Music career stateside after finding success in his native Sweden. He formerly belonged to a Hip-Hop group named Avalon before going solo.

Mohombi currently is on tour with Latin Heartthrob Enrique Iglesias and made a stop-off in Toronto this afternoon, after garnering raves at their Bell Centre show in Montreal last night. The Singer-Songwriter who stands a towering 6'4, is now promoting debut Single Bumpy Ride, which has gone on to reach Gold sales in Canada, peaking on the Canadian Billboard Hot 100 at number 32.  Not bad considering he's done little promotion.  Today in fact, was his first time in Toronto.

The Single is produced by none other than the Man responsible for Lady Gaga’s biggest hits, RedOne, who shares in Mohombi’s part-Swedish identity. Upcoming debut Disc Movemeant (no, that is not a typo) is slated tentatively for an April 2011 release with the distinction of being the first release from RedOne’s 2101 Records, which together with Cherrytree and Interscope Records, will see its release through Universal Music.

I was invited by the wonderful Team at Universal Music Canada to sit-in on Mohombi's first-ever MuchMusic New.Music.Live. appearance. The outgoing 24 year-old's day didn't start off ideally, I was told.  With a v. tightly-scheduled afternoon which included Radio, Rehearsals and two back-to-back performances, Mohombi and his Manager J Wells weren't left with much time to worry about the fact that his lost Luggage which was routed in error to Chicago instead of Toronto.  And early tomorrow, they are headed on a trans-Atlantic journey to London.  No time to shop even for some replacement clothing.
