TORONTO PREMIERE OF SCOTT PILGRIM VS. THE WORLD (PHOTOS)

I'm finally getting a chance to upload these photos from the Toronto premiere of forthcoming Action-Hero Comedy Scott Pilgrim vs. The World. The film based on the Graphic Novel Scott Pilgrim by Canadian Bryan Lee O'Malley, was filmed here in Toronto under the Direction of Edgar Wright, who brought us Hot Fuzz and Shaun of the Dead.

The invite-only Gala rolled out a Red Carpet at Elgin Theatre for some of today's most promising talent including the film's two main stars Michael Cera (Johnny Pilgrim) and Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Ramona Flowers). The film is about Scott Pilgrim wanting to win the heart of Ramona Flowers, but in order to do so, he must defeat her seven ex-lovers. It features an amazing cast of familiar faces like Brandon Routh, Kieran Culkin, Chris Evans, Jason Schwartzman, Aubrey Plaza and Oscar nominee Anna Kendrick - all of whom you will know after this film is released Friday, August 13, 2010 via Universal Pictures.

Although most of the cast were just wonderfully nice (especially Schwartzman and Torontonian Ellen Wong), I am baffled why Kendrick refuses to pose for photos with fans or even sign autographs, as it was reported that she ignored fans on multiple occasions.   It was noted also that our very own Cera is becoming increasingly difficult to interact with as he tends to keep a distance, not posing for photos with fans.

AVATAR, UNSTOPPABLE

Avatar is unstoppable.  Pulling in $48.5 million this weekend at the Box Office, it is now only a question of how many weeks it will be before it gets toppled by another film.  It's been on top for four weeks now, which is pretty much a rarity in this day and age.

In second position was Sherlock Holmes, which still brought in a healthy $16.6 million in its third week, which on any other week would be enough to place it on top.

Lions Gate Films' Daybreakers was the top debut in fourth this week, taking in $15 million.  The well-reviewed vampire action film stars Willem Dafoe and Ethan Hawke and is well on its way to recouping back its $20 million budget.

Leap Year starring Amy Adams and Matthew Goode debuted in sixth this weekend with $9.2 million in earnings.  The film set in Ireland has a Transatlantic appeal with its American in Europe theme and should do well overseas when it sees a release there.  Read my review of it here.

The Weinstein Co.'s Youth in Revolt starring Canadian Michael Cera opened in ninth with $7 million.  The film which may have seen further revisions since its premiere at TIFF in September, has also received great reviews.

TIFF DAY 7

I think I'm just about ready to crash at this point. With three more days of TIFF remaining, that light at the end of the tunnel is nearing. I'm very certain that by this time Sunday I'll be missing the excitement.

Earlier in the day I caught what will be the final Press Conference snaps of the festival from me. I must say I was most disappointed by Natalie Portman who completely ignored fans. After digging around on the net a little, I am able to understand better why it is she does not interact more. Apparently earlier in her career she received some disturbing fan mail, so since then she has minimized interaction on the advice of her management. Regardless, a simple wave and a smile would've sufficed I think. She didn't even give that!

Portman is in town promoting Don Roos' (Marley & Me) new film Love and Other Impossible Pursuits. The film also stars Lisa Kudrow who was a little nicer. Kudrow spent the longest time doing additional press after the conference had ended. This of course is a good sign as many critics are raving about her performance in this film. I'm excited to attend a screening of it on Friday morning.

Of all the stars I was able to see today I must say that our very own Michael Cera (Juno) is a class act. He came to the Press Conference for his new film Youth in Revolt in a simple button-down and knapsack, generously taking his time to do autographs afterward. If you look in the middle photo below, you will see Cera's father who is an active part of his career. My collection of Juno cast signatures is nearing completion as you can see:
