"DEGRASSI" RECEIVES FIRST PRIMETIME EMMY NOMINATION

Clare Edwards, Sav Bhandari & Holly Sinclair from Degrassi
Congratulations to the Cast and Crew of Degrassi, who received their first-ever Emmy Award nomination earlier today for Outstanding Children's Program. Seeing the complex and sophisticated ideas which have evolved out of The Kids of Degrassi Street - which I watched  religiously growing up - brings me a sense of pride and joy as a Torontonian.

Despite negative reviews, Toronto-filmed Mini-series The Kennedys also received a handful of nominations!  No love for Katie Holmes though.

Up for awards this year are some heavy-hitters like Kate Winslet (Mildred Pierce), Elisabeth Moss (Mad Men), Jon Hamm (Mad Men), Christian Hendricks (Mad Men), Greg Kinnear (The Kennedys), Tina Fey (30 Rock), Jane Krakowski (30 Rock), Amy Poehler (Parks & Recreation), Kristen Wiig (Saturday Night Live), Jane Lynch (Glee), Laura Linney (The Big C) and more.  Melissa McCarthy, seen most recently in the Box Office smash Bridesmaids, announced the Nominations this morning in addition to receiving a nomination herself for her work on sitcom Mike & Molly.

CTV will air the 63rd Annual Primetime Emmy Awards air on Sunday, September 18, 2011.  Click here for a full list of Nominees.
