I was thrilled to be invited to a private Media Launch for this, one of Canada's most iconic Fashion Lines, getting to try on an array of different Jackets.  One which caught my eye in particular was one designed last year by our v. own Drake.  Weighing in-excess of 10 lbs and complete with a hood trimmed lavishly in dyed black Coyote Fur, instantly I could feel the warmth of comfort of its Goose Down insulation.  Costing in-and-around the $1k mark, a Boy can only dream of possessing such Luxury!

I was thoroughly impressed at the quality of some of the Accessories I saw too like thickly-insulated Gloves, Merino Wool Scarves and their super-awesome PBI Aviator Hat - lined in Coyote Fur.

"HYSTERIA" AT TIFF 2011

Tanya Wexler does a fine job with her latest Feature, Hysteria, which had its TIFF 2011 Premiere last night at Roy Thomson Hall. The Rom-Com examines a backwards period in British History when Women unable to suppress their sexual urges were deemed to have Hysteria, which could have resulted in a Hysterectomy if left untreated.

Its Story follows Mortimer Granville (Hugh Dancy) and his failed attempts as a Physician, before being taken under the wings of Dr. Dalrymple (Jonathan Pryce) in treating Hysteria among Women. Along the way, Mortimer meets both Dr. Dalrymple`s Daughters, the outspoken yet charitable Charlotte (Maggie Gyllenhaal) and also, a complacent Emily (Felicity Jones).  After the demand for Mortimer`s treatments exceed his capabilities, he directs his focus towards producing a device which would forever change the way Women view their own Sexuality; known eventually as the Vibrator.

LOVE AND OTHER DRUGS POSTER

Well, Hello. Who agrees with me that there are too many pillows in this photo? 

Global Television just leaked this positively provocative poster for Love and Other Drugs. The film, directed by Edward Zwick (Blood Diamond, The Last Samurai) although seemingly not the stuff of Oscars, is actually getting a bit of buzz especially for its star Anne Hathaway's performance.  It is based on the memoir Hard Sell: The Evolution of a Viagra Salesman by Jamie Reidy and his intense relationship with Maggie Murdock, who apparently suffered from Parkinson's Disease.

Although I was hoping v. much for this one to do the Festival rounds at TIFF, it looks like we'll have to wait for November 24, 2010 to see more. 

A-LISTERS ARRIVE AT MET BALL RED CARPET

A whole lot of hotness is going on this evening at the annual MET Ball (Costume Institute Gala) held at New York City's Metropolitan Museum of Art, as A-Listers show off their best A.  The event celebrating the opening of the American Woman: Fashioning a National Identity exhibit, is hosted by Anna Wintour, Oprah Winfrey and Patrick Robinson (The Gap).

MADONNA ON THE MARRIAGE REF

There she goes again, being all in-your-face.  Madonna appeared on Jerry Seinfeld's new hit show The Marriage Ref on NBC tonight and I must say once again, the show was beyond entertaining.  The Queen of Pop joined the celebrity panel alongside Larry David (Arrested Development, Curb Your Enthusiasm) and Ricky Gervais (The Invention of Lying, The Office - UK) and there was a whole lotta arguing with Madonna taking a feminist stance on pretty much everything.  

The panel got to judge amusing couples' conflicts tonight including a wife who treated her lizard better than her jealous husband, which Madonna had no issue with, and also a couple burdened by the husband's overbearing mother.  In tonight's episode, the audience got to see the mother belittle her son, a 46 year-old man, for not having sex more often with his wife.  What gets me is that the man is a Psychotherapist!

I am in love with this show and for me it's honestly more about seeing the celebrity panel bicker than the actual couples' drama.  Oddly though, the couples only win a Royal Caribbean Cruise for their embarrassment, so clearly the budget is going all into the celebrity guest appearances.  Congratulations NBC, you've just made television exciting again for me!

And while we're on the topic of Madonna, Oscar-nominated actress Maggie Gyllenhaal appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show today and confessed her adoration for her since the age of seven.  Gyllenhaal revealed that she attended Madonna's Oscar Party and got to dance full-on with her for a  minute, but couldn't keep up with her.  Before long, she noticed Madonna dancing with her husband, Peter Sarsgaard, who in her words was "controlling it" with his neck tie.  Good times.

REVIEW: CRAZY HEART

Everything about writer/director Scott Cooper's Crazy Heart is authentic.  The film is never without a moment where I feel I am truly watching a weathered and washed-up alcoholic trying to make amends with his troubled past.  And the thing is, I wanted him to succeed all the way.

Jeff Bridges is outstanding as Bad Blake, a country singer/songwriter who spends most of his days now playing small seedy bars when the story begins.  He cannot make it through his performance without vomiting mid-set.  Bad is introduced to Jean (Maggie Gyllenhaal), a single mother and aspiring journalist who is eager to capture his story.  The sparks fly almost instantly between the two, developing into a genuine love story which otherwise on paper might seem unbelievable considering how different they both are.  Gyllenhaal truly embodies the spirit of a woman who has had her share of emotional disappointment in the past, once again channeling some of that fire she gave us in 2006's Sherrybaby.

Tommy Sweet (Colin Farrell), whom Bad had mentored and worked closely with in the past prior to a fallout, invites the struggling singer to open for him on his arena tour.  After finally being able to put aside his pride, Bad agrees to accept the offer, reviving his music career once again - Tommy encourages Bad to write for him.  Farrell is brilliant and completely believable as a humbled country music star,  undergoing a magical transformation of sorts here.
