LADY GAGA MAKES ACTING DEBUT IN "MACHETE KILLS" AS LADY CHAMELEÓN

Official Artwork for Machete Kills
Director Robert Rodriguez might only have had lukewarm success with 2010's Machete, but he's giving it another go with Machete Kills.  This Sequel from 20th Century Fox, sees Machete (Danny Trejo) on a mission to track down an Arms Dealer looking to launch a weapon into Space.

Although its Cast already is pretty exciting with Sofia Vergara, Amber Heard, Cuba Gooding Jr., Mel Gibson, Jessica Alba, Vanessa Hudgens and Charlie Sheen cast, Rodriguez dropped the biggest Surprise of all today that none other than Lady Gaga will be playing La Chameleón in the Action Flick.  Rodriguez says on Twitter, "I just finished working with @LadyGaga on @MacheteKills, she kicked SO MUCH ASS! Holy Smokes. Blown away!".

No confirmation yet on release date, but our interest has just been piqued. The Film is expected to get a 2013 release.

GEORGE CLOONEY'S THE AMERICAN - A "LABOUR" DAY OF LOVE AT BOX OFFICE

The American
George Clooney's The American from Focus Features opened at the top of the Box Office in its first week of release, with an tepid estimate of $16.5 million from 2,823 theatres.    These numbers are based on a four-day Labour Day weekend according to Deadline; final tally will be released Tuesday.  Yet again, it is a neck-in-neck finish for a second week in a row with Takers edging out The Last Exorcism last week only by a hair.  The reviews for the Clooney film have been passably positive for the film 61% at Rotten Tomatoes) which opened oddly on a Wednesday.

Robert Rodriguez's Machete starring Jessica Alba is projected to bring in $14.7 million over four days, which is uncharacteristically low. The reviews however, have been positive for the Fox film with Rotten Tomatoes rating it a consensus of 71%.

Last weekend's champion Takers slips to third this weekend with $14.5 million, just ahead of The Last Exorcism again; the latter brought in $10 million earning $34.8 million to date.  Warner Bros.' Going the Distance starring Drew Barrymore and Justin Long brought in $8.5 million from 3,030 theatres - clearly a flop.

AN OPEN LETTER TO LINDSAY LOHAN (RE: PURPLE MAGAZINE)

MR.WILL-W.: POP MAVEN launched in September 2009 and going through some of my archives, I'm surprised that I have yet to devote any attention to Lindsay Lohan.  Perhaps this is a pat-on-the-back in that I try my best to steer focus away from gossip on this blog, which seems to be all Lohan is known for of late.  We are all aware of her partying, relationship drama, rehab stints and trouble with the law even if we choose not to know.

Lohan can be seen currently gracing Issue #13 of French fashion/art magazine Purple.  To be honest, prior to hearing about her being on it, I've never heard of the publication.  So after skimming through some of the fruits of her shoot with photographer Terry Richardson, I must say that the haute couture styling meets raw/edgy photography is fantastic.  The model, not so much.

The cover, which is meant to push some buttons with its Crucifixion theme has been done many a time before.  I'm not shocked.  Bored?  Maybe.  And Lohan gets drowned completely underneath all the Gucci, Alexander McQueen and Vivienne Westwood like a lost child at Walmart.
