HELEN MIRREN ADDRESSES SEXISM IN HOLLYWOOD

Helen Mirren at Women in Entertainment Breakfast
This might be an Oldie but a Goodie, but with The Hollywood Reporter's Women in Entertainment Breakfast coming-up on December 7, 2011, let us re-live this magical moment with Dame Helen Mirren who received the Sherry Lansing Award last year.  During her Speech she addresses Sexism in Film and generally Life, mentioning many "Scientific Truths" she grew-up being told with which turned out to be anything but.  Jane Fonda is set to be honoured this year.

The straight-shooting Mirren states point blank, "I resent in my life the survival of some very mediocre Male Actors and the professional demise of some very brilliant Female ones. However, with all due respect to you, many brilliant and successful Women in this room...really not too much has changed in the canon of Hollywood filmmaking that continues to worship at the altar of the 18 to 25-year-old male and his penis.". "Quite small I always think.". Ouch.

Mirren points out that Women represent $20 Trillion in Consumer Spending asking, "So how about a bit of God damn respect?", commanding the applause of the Audience.
