Marilyn Denis (L) and Wendie Malick (R) |
Wendie Malick is one of those Actresses whom you remember by face more than by name. Over the past 23 years, she has been working constantly, appearing in five or more Television Series or Movies each year. Malick has built a career around playing commanding, yet likable aloof types and her impressive Resumé includes acclaimed titles like Frasier, Just Shoot Me, Dream On and many more.
At 60 years of age, the Actress is now just finding the spotlight on her, starring in TV Land's hit Comedy Series Hot in Cleveland alongside Betty White and Valerie Bertinelli, both whose careers have seen sudden (and deserving) resurgences. The Show was picked up in Canada by CTV last July where it debuted to impressive numbers, drawing 1.82 million Viewers.
Malick just arrived in Toronto to promote Season Two of Hot in Cleveland with various appearances lined-up on CP24, CTV's The Marilyn Denis Show, CHUM-FM's Mornings with Roger, Darren and Marilyn, Rogers Cable's Your World This Week, Virgin Radio and more. Having been nominated for a pair of Screen Actors Guild Awards already, the Series' Season Premiere in the U.S. on Wednesday night pulled in v. strong numbers beating out every other program in the 10 PM EST time slot, with a total 3 million Viewers tuning in.
Visiting a Taping of The Marilyn Denis Show, Malick chat with Denis about what we can look forward to on this forthcoming Season including an Arc featuring Funnywoman Mary Tyler Moore. She said that many Friends of the Cast are inquiring about Guest Spots on Hot in Cleveland as it continues to prove that there indeed is a demand for programming focused on Older Women, who still are under-represented on Television.
Malick joked also about her 89 year-old Co-star Betty White's eating habits. She told Denis, "She (White) eats the worst things - like Licorice and Hot Dogs. My Husband tells me I should stop trying to get her to eat Salmon & Salad because whatever she's doing, it's working!". And how could anyone disagree with White being a vision of health? Not that Malick is doing so shabby herself. She's gorgeous.
I was the only Audience member who got to meet Malick and unfortunately there was a no Photography policy at the Show, meaning I couldn't get a Photo with her. Despite that, I still managed to sneak a couple Candids of her with Denis on-stage. Malick was lovely enough to sign a Photo for me, all smiles.
