KIM CATTRALL IN TORONTO FOR "PRIVATE LIVES"

Kim Cattrall & Mr. Will-W.
I have a confession.  When I was a Kid, I saw Mannequin at the Theatre five times.  And that was a lot of Allowance money in 1987!  I adored Kim Cattrall as an Egyptian re-incarnated in Modern Day as a sexy Mannequin, Emmy.  It was completely campy and ludicrous but that Rom-Com defined my Childhood and her performance to this day holds a dear place in my heart.  I still stop to watch it when I see it on TV and even sat through Mannequin 2: On the Run hoping it would carry on some trace of its Predecessor's legacy, but that could not be.

Since then, Cattrall has gone on to become a Pop Culture Icon with her work on HBO's Sex and the City as the brassy, fearless and in-charge Samantha Jones. In Toronto currently for a limited engagement of Mirvish Productions' Private Lives, Cattrall plays Amanda, a glamourous Socialite who visits the French Riviera with her new Husband, only to cross paths with her Ex-Husband once again, rekindling a bit of that old Romance.  Our v. own Paul Gross also stars in the Production, which is Broadway-bound after its Toronto run ends October 30, 2011.

I got to meet the lovely Cattrall who was still in-character leaving Royal Alexandra Theatre, speaking to Fans in a British accent.  One Fan asked her to sign Sex and the City memorabilia and she asked out loud, "Sex and the City? What is that?".  Funny.

Lovely and sweet, she stopped to sign some Playbills and posed for Photos before heading off for the night with her Pusateri's Shopping Bag and a bouquet of flowers in-tow.  Someone once told me that the brilliant Actress was cold to Fans and I found absolutely no evidence of that at all tonight.  She was warm and generous.

"SEX AND THE CITY" TO BE REVIVED AS TELEVISION SERIES?

Still from Sex and the City 2
No way!  The Daily Mail is putting it out there that Sarah Jessica Parker is keen on reviving the Sex and the City franchise again - not as a Movie - but back to its roots as a Television Series.  That's right - a seventh season is said to be in early discussions.  Neither Darren Starr nor HBO have confirmed anything yet at this point, mind you.

Although I'm thrilled to hear this as a not-so-secret Fan of Sex and the City, there's something inherently sacrilegious about exhuming a sacred corpse long-buried. But then again, was it not sacrilegious also making two Films which dishonoured the legacy that is Carrie, Samantha, Miranda and Charlotte Alrighty!  Sign me up for that TV package with HBO in it!

"2 BROKE GIRLS" STAR BETH BEHRS IN TORONTO FOR CITYTV'S FALL 2011 UPFRONTS

Beth Behrs & Mr. Will-W.
Definitely a name to look out for.  CityTV celebrated their upcoming Fall 2011 Season last night at Canon Theatre and one of their brightest new Stars here for the festivities is Beth Behrs.   The Actress stars in hotly-tipped new Series 2 Broke Girls alongside likable Kat Dennings (Thor, Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist).  The Sitcom which centers around two Waitresses who aspire to open a Cupcake Shop.  Without a dime to their names, they must come-up with $25,000 to fulfill their dream.

The Series comes from Sex and the City Producer/Director/Screenwriter Michael Patrick King and also stars hunky D&G Model-turned-Actor Noah Mills, who was seen in Sex and the City 2.  I can't wait to see this especially after one CityTV Insider revealed to me this is his favourite new Series, calling it "hilarious".

I got to meet Behrs quickly before she was rushed-off and she is just absolutely beautiful!  Look at that smile.

Follow Behrs on Twitter here.  See a Preview of the CBS Series here.

KARATE KID DROPKICKS THE COMPETITION

As predicted, Sony Pictures' Karate Kid did a giant Dropkick and a victorious "Hai-ya!" on the Box Office this weekend. In its opening weekend, it pulled in $56 million, doubling that of Fox's The A-Team, which earned still a very impressive $26 million, making for an '80s revival Top Two, as both are remakes of iconic trademarks from that era.

Three-week champion Shrek Forever Forever After slipped to third this weekend with $15.8 million, just ahead of Get Him to The Greek which brought in $10.1 million.

Sex and The City 2 continues to tumble its way down with $5.5 million in eighth spot, and its sister film Splice, also from Warner Bros., rounds out the Top Ten with $2.9 million.

SEX & THE CITY 2 - A SMASH OVERSEAS

Now, who said Sex and The City 2 was a bust? Overseas numbers for the latest instalment of the female-centric franchise are stellar. To date the film internationally has earned $165.2 million, with $76 million of that along coming from America alone. Although the film was made for a whopping $100 million budget, the Warner Bros./New Line Cinema venture is easily making this back in its theatrical run alone. Surely, its legions of female fans unable to trek out to the theatres will support it in DVD release, rentals, television runs and Pay Per Views. Congrats, ladies! Now get cracking on #3!

"SHREK" AND GET HIM TO THE GREEK NECK AND NECK

In what's looking like a neck and neck battle to the finish this weekend at the Box Office, two-week champion Shrek Forever After is holding a narrow lead with $6.5 million based on Friday's numbers over Universal Pictures' Get Him to the Greek, which made $6.2 million.  The difference though is that Shrek is playing at 4.386 theatres, while Get Him to the Greek is playing at only 2,697 theatres.  The comedy which is a spin-off of successful romantic comedy Forgetting Sarah Marshall has been praised by critics with a very decent 75% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Killers from Lionsgate Films is poised to debut in third after a decent showing in third spot with $5.7 million.  The comedy stars Grey's Anatomy's Katherine Heigl and Ashton Kutcher.  The film has been panned universally as films starring Kutcher normally do.

SEX AND THE CITY 2'S NOAH MILLS IN GQ TAIWAN

If you saw Sex and The City 2 this past weekend, you know very well who Noah Mills is, even though you might need a look at his tanned buttocks to do a full identification.  The supermodel who resides in New York City, is best known for his exclusive work with D&G and now Michael Kors. Mills is now branching into acting now after having studied it for a brief period and if his gig in Sex and The City 2 is any indication of how hard his agent is pushing for him, I have no doubt we’ll be seeing a lot more of him soon.

Mills appears in the June 2010 issue of GQ Taiwan. Note: this is the face (and body) of a gorgeous man and below are pictures from the spread:

OGRES ON TOP, "SEX" IN THE BACKSEAT

Despite leading the pack early on Friday, Warner Bros.' Sex and the City 2 didn't have enough momentum to hold its lead on the Box Office tally this weekend slipping from first to third. Instead, Paramount's Shrek Forever After makes it two-for-two with an estimated $55.7 this Memorial Day weekend, as families flocked out to support the latest in the four-film franchise. Sex and the City 2 earned $37.1, or $51.3 including totals since its unique Thursday opening. Overseas, the film pulled in $27.6 million, bringing its international total to $78.9 million, meaning it should recoup its $100 million budget before next weekend.

Disney's Prince of Persia by no means disgraced itself, accounting for second spot with $37.8 million this weekend domestically. Overseas it earned $28.3 million. The film however was made for $200 million, and it's doubtful whether it will earn this back in its theatrical run alone.  Again, if it were any other weekend Jake...  Sorry.

SEX AND THE CITY 2 REVIEW

At long last, The Super Bowl for Women has descended upon us, except here we don't have to sit through a boring Halftime Show and wardrobe malfunctions. Instead, Sex and The City 2 takes things to a new level, rewarding us with Liza Minnelli covering Beyoncé (Gays 1, Straight Men 0) and a very deliberate Nip Slip or three. Even better, I'd say.

The Sex and the City franchise is something you either get or don't get. Sitting in on a Media Screening early this morning, it was clear who got the some of the film's subtly humorous moments -namely female reviewers- versus some of the male reviewers whom I hardly heard a peep from in the film's two and a half hour duration. I however, am Man and I love Sex and The City - and I enjoyed this sequel a great deal.

Picking up where 2008's Sex and The City The Movie left off, the sequel explores the central themes of adapting to married life, fidelity, Menopause, coping with Motherhood and cross-cultural perceptions of sexuality. Carrie Bradshaw or Carrie Preston (Sarah Jessica Parker) now, makes it clear to Mr. Big (Chris Noth) that she's always been more "Coco Chanel than Coq au Vin". That is, she refuses to live a boring Cookie-Cutter life, being content at home watching television with her husband. "I did not sign up for this", she refutes when Mr. Big presents her with an Anniversary gift of a television set in their bedroom. She wants romance and sparkle and as Mr. Big feels an increasing need to settle down and live low-key, Carrie still craves excitement, opting for Movie Premieres over sitting at home eating Take-Out with Mr. Big.  It's apparent that the couple has hit a roadblock, resulting in the proposed resolution of perhaps taking two days off a week from one another. Being overly analytical as usual, Carrie begins to worry that their marriage may be headed for trouble.

PREVIEW: SEX AND THE CITY 2 ORIGINAL MOTION PICTURE SOUNDTRACK

At long last we are able to preview the Sex and the City 2: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack and although it's nowhere as strong as Sex and The City: Music From the Original Motion Picture, this one is far more kitschy and entertaining.  With contributions from artists like Dido, Erykah Badu, Alicia Keys, Jennifer Hudson/Leona Lewis and even the film's four stars, the disc has just about everybody wondering.  You know you're dying to hear it, so here are some full previews from the disc, which sees a May 25, 2010 release (audio content owned by Warner Music):

THE LADIES OF SEX & THE CITY ON ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY

OMG.  Hook me up with a copy of this right away.  The next issue of Entertainment Weekly has the ladies of Sex and The City looking more a semblance of themselves than some recent promotional shots that have surfaced, and it hits newstands tomorrow, Friday, May 14, 2010

In the write-up by we learn how John Corbett (Aidan) got his revenge after being excluded from the Sex and The City movie.  Corbett says, "I love it, because I was ultra-jealous of those guys when they got to be in the first movie. I called Noth on his birthday while I was there. I passed the phone around. I couldn’t wait to rub it in, because he was really bummed out that he couldn’t come. I like creating jealousy.” Revenge is sweet, isn't it?  Click here to read more details about the movie's plot.

Two more weeks to go until release day.  I cannot contain my excitement.  In case you missed them the first time, check out these photos I got of and with the lovely Ms. Parker on her recent visit to Toronto.

RACHEL MCADAMS REPLACES KIM CATRALL IN SEX & THE CITY 2?

Oh wow!  It looks like Rachel McAdams has replaced fellow Canadian actress Kim Catrall as Samantha in the upcoming Sex and The City 2 movie.  Kiddingtee-hee.  Although everybody and their blind Grandma can see that this just-released poster for the movie is Adobe Photoshop-ulous, I cannot deny that it only excites me more to see this!  May 27th!!

SEX & THE CITY'S KRISTIN DAVIS IN MONTREAL

Sex & The City's very own Charlotte York (Kristin Davis) spoke at The Millennium Summit, an annual meeting among world leaders to discuss global matters in Montreal yesterday.   Sarah Ferguson (Duchess of York) and Al Gore were among the many speakers this year.

Asides from being adorable Charlotte, Davis is in fact an Oxfam ambassador and at the conference she spoke about her recent visits to Mozambique and Ethiopia, discussing issues about orphans, farming, irrigation and AIDS.  She spoke about the privilege of being a celebrity and the importance of using it in a positive way to raise awareness about pressing matters like the poor living conditions of young girls in Ethiopia.

Davis also spoke about the upcoming release of Sex & The City 2 out late May, indicating that she expects harsh criticisms once again after Part 1 received mostly negative reviews.  She stated that she felt fans of the show have been loyal for the past 12 years and no matter what critics think, their opinions will not sway how loyal fans feel about the movie.

SARAH JESSICA PARKER AT HALSTON HERITAGE LAUNCH PARTY (TORONTO)

That's right - be jealous. That would be Carrie Bradshaw herself and your favourite Pop Culture Maven, Mr. Will-W. together at last. Sarah Jessica Parker flew in to Toronto to do a quick round of promotion for the launch of the Halston Heritage Collection, sold exclusively at The Bay.  The party was held at the Queen Street flagship store. Parker was recently selected as Chief Creative Officer for the reborn fashion line. Many of you might already recognize one of fashion line's marquee items in the Sex and The City 2  poster, which she wears with pride.

Prior to being known mostly for its line of drug store discount fragrances, fashion house Halston was a big deal in the '70s. Just like how Ungaro hadn't been relevant in quite some time, Halston is now amidst a major relaunch. Canada's premiere department store The Bay has made no secret about wanting to up the ante to compete with the high fashion of Holt Renfrew. My readers might remember that America's Next Top Model's Miss J. Alexander visited this past weekend at their Bloor Street location, drawing a bit of that celebrity appeal to its name.  And I was there.

And let me tell you this, Parker is everything I thought she would be and more in person. After waiting for her to do her rounds with the Canadian media fashion elite, I finally got a chance to say "hi" before she finally headed out after sticking around for an hour. Graciously she signed a little memento for me and posed for a photo with me, despite being in a rush to head to a dinner at The Hazelton with Prime Minister Harper's wife.  We talked quickly about Sex and The City 2 and I expressed my excitement to see it.  She told me I am going to love it.  Scream.

Check out some more photos I got from the event below:

And while you're at it, why not check out this exclusive free download of my ode to Carrie Bradshaw, produced by Monsieur Adi? The track is from my 2008 album Bodytalk.

PRODUCT WATCH: SEX & THE CITY CHOCOLATES

Timed well in advance of the May theatrical release for Sex and The City: The Movie 2, Canadian Chocolatier Laura Secord has released its own line of official Sex and The City chocolates.  Sold in boxes of four, these truffles each represent one of the series' four heroines.

Carrie's Milk Chocolate Cosmopolitan is depicted by a New York City skyline, while Miranda's Dark Chocolate Caramel Almond represents her understand elegance with a simple cream coloured graphic print.  Sexy Samantha's Milk Chocolate Champagne is a celebration with a sassy leopard print graphic and lastly Charlotte's Dark Chocolate Lemon Raspberry's sweetness is display through cute - what I'm assuming  - is a Manolo Blahnik-inspired graphic.

Upon sampling each of these delectable goodies sold at $8.99 CAN a box, I must say that I prefer Charlotte's best.  What the heck, they're all good and I demolished them all before I had a chance to really absorb their flavours. There will be a larger sized box made available soon at $18.99 CAN, likely to capitalize off the Valentine's Day rush.  Moregasmic.

INTERVIEW MAGAZINE: PENÉLOPE CRUZ BY MARION COTILLARD

Although she has made quite a few questionable choices in her career, it is definitely all about Penélope Cruz in Hollywood right now.  The Madrid-born actress' winning streak started in what is arguably her career-best performance in Pedro Almodóvar's Volver (2006), followed by her Oscar-winning turn as emotionally unstable artist Maria Elena in Woody Allen's Vicky Christina Barcelona (2008).  She currently can be seen in theatres currently in Rob Marshall's NINE and Almodóvar's latest work Broken Embraces where she once again is just absolutely stellar.

In the December/January 2010 issue of Interview Magazine, Cruz is interviewed by NINE co-star Marion Cotillard.  We learn that upon making her first American film The Hi-Lo Country in 1998, she could barely put together a sentence in English. She never had the chance to visit a cinema until 1990 having to lie that she was 16 years old in order to gain entrance.  Prior to that, she would rent movies in Beta-Max format.  The first film she ever saw in the theatre was in fact, Almodóvar's Tie Me Up! Tie Me Down!  Her obsession with his films has become reality as she has become his current muse.

Cotillard questions Cruz on how she researched for the role of seductress Carla in NINE and we learn that Cruz was in fact channeling Pink Panther the whole time which she kept a secret.  Cruz feels that most successful actors require some degree of insecurity - every actor needs an ego, although their ego can also be their worst enemy.  She mentioned also that she believes there is no greater actress today than Meryl Streep.

SEX & THE CITY 2 TRAILER AND POSTER. AIDAN'S BACK!

This official poster of Carrie Bradshaw is signature Markus Klinko & Indrani, who were responsible for Mariah Carey's Emancipation of Mimi photography; surreal and Photoshopped to the hilt. Loves it.

Is it possible for a film to look even more glamorous than this trailer below? Didn't love the first movie, but how can I not support anything from this franchise?  The girls and I are like BFFs.  We go way back.  And guess what? Aidan's back!  Sex & The City 2 hits theatres May 28, 2010.
