ROBERT DOWNEY JR. WELCOMES SECOND SON: EXTON ELIAS

In what's already shaping-up to be a massive year for Robert Downey Jr., yesterday in Los Angeles he welcomed his second Son, Exton Elias Downey, measuring 7 lbs, 5 oz and 20 inches long.  People Magazine reports Exton is the little Brother of Indio, 18-years-old, from Downey's previous marriage to Deborah Falconer.

Downey who reprises his role as Tony Stark/Iron Man in Marvel's The Avengers - in theatres May 4, 2012 - also will soon begin work on Iron Man 3, now in Pre-Production.

OGRES ON TOP, "SEX" IN THE BACKSEAT

Despite leading the pack early on Friday, Warner Bros.' Sex and the City 2 didn't have enough momentum to hold its lead on the Box Office tally this weekend slipping from first to third. Instead, Paramount's Shrek Forever After makes it two-for-two with an estimated $55.7 this Memorial Day weekend, as families flocked out to support the latest in the four-film franchise. Sex and the City 2 earned $37.1, or $51.3 including totals since its unique Thursday opening. Overseas, the film pulled in $27.6 million, bringing its international total to $78.9 million, meaning it should recoup its $100 million budget before next weekend. 

Disney's Prince of Persia by no means disgraced itself, accounting for second spot with $37.8 million this weekend domestically. Overseas it earned $28.3 million. The film however was made for $200 million, and it's doubtful whether it will earn this back in its theatrical run alone.  Again, if it were any other weekend Jake...  Sorry.

SHREK FOREVER AFTER ON TOP, BUT....

Paramount Pictures' Shek Forever After destroyed its opposition this weekend at the Box Office, pulling in $71.3 million. Impressive, but not quite as impressive as some of that franchise's earlier films. Shrek the Third for example pulled in $121.6 million on its opening weekend domestically. Cameron Diaz was seen on the Live with Regis & Kelly Show last week, confirming this is the last film in the series and said that she was quite sad to see it end.

Iron Man 2, also from Paramount slips to second in its third week of release. To date the film has earned $251.2 million domestically and $506 million worldwide. It was made for $200 million.

Robin Hood also continues to perform well, more so overseas. It has already made $191 million worldwide, with $18.7 million of that coming this past weekend, good enough to land it in third.

The hilarious MacGruber reviewed here Friday, debuted in sixth spot pulling in only $4.1 million. The film was made for only $10 million and shouldn't be a loss for Rogue Pictures/Relativity Media.

REVIEW: IRON MAN 2

I'll admit it. I still haven't seen Iron Man 1, but Iron Man 2 stands on its own as a deliciously fun movie-going experience. The story has billionaire Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) at his narcissistic best. Unfortunately the American government sees his inventions, Iron Man armours designed to protect the United States against attack, as being illegal possession of weapons. This threatens his right to his own intellectual property and he defiantly holds his own in proving along with his ally James Rhodes (Don Cheadle) that the benefit of his inventions outweigh their potential risk or harm, discrediting others and their greed to take ownership of his work.

Meanwhile in Russia, Ivan Vanko (Mickey Rourke) is out to avenge the disgracing of his father who worked together many years prior with Tony's father Howard (John Slattery) on an Arc Reactor. Due to limitations in technology at that time however, they were unable to complete their mission. It is Howard's hope that his son will be able to carry on the torch and finish the work his father started.

Convinced that he is dying judging by increasing Toxicity levels in his blood, Tony gives up his title as CEO of Stark Industries, handing this over to his Personal Assistant/love interest Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow). Sexy Natalie Rushman (Scarlett Johansson) is hired as his new assistant.

IRON MAN 2 FOR 2

It was a very active weekend at the Box Office with last week's champion Iron Man 2 making it two for two, staying atop again for a second week. New challenger Ridley Scott's Robin Hood starring Russell Crowe and Cate Blanchett, bowed with an impressive $13.1 million on its opening night, while Iron Man 2 pulled in $15.1 million. Weekend estimates peg Iron Man 2 at the top with $53 million, while Robin Hood earned $37 million.

The difference however, is that the challenger opened only in 3,500 theatres, while the returning champ expanded to 4,390 theatres. Thus technically, Robin Hood is outperforming its rival on an average per theatre basis but in the world of the Box Office, the grand total is what counts.  Worldwide, Robin Hood was by no means was a disgrace, grossing $111 million in total.

Amanda Seyfried-starring Letters To Juliet from Summit Entertainment, placed a distant third with an estimated $13.9 million from 2,970 theatres.  It is said to be the new studio's fourth largest ever debut.

IRON MAN 2 OPENS TO $52.4 MILLION

Paramount's Iron Man 2 brought in a whopping $52.4 million on its opening night, but falls short of beating The Twilight Saga: New Moon's opening record of $72.7 million.  Still, this is a mighty impressive feat, ranking the film as the seventh highest grossing opening night ever.  Although there were high hopes for the film beating out The Dark Knight's record opening weekend tally of $160 million, it's looking like Iron Man 2 is going to fall just short of that with $133 million.
