UGLY BETTY'S MICHAEL URIE AT TORONTO'S L'OREAL LUMINATO FESTIVAL

The L'Oreal Luminato Festival received an added boost of star power with the surprise appearance of Ugly Betty star Michael Urie as host of this evening's festivities at the Light On Your Feet - Queer Divas show at Dundas Square.  The show pays tribute to LGBT talent with a Canadian focus including appearances by acts like Carol Pope, Kelly and The Kelly Girls, Justin Bond and more.

Texan-born Urie arrived at the venue about half hour before the 7 PM show and was all smiles, coming over to greet me and asking me how I was doing, before giving me a hug.  We chatted about what he's been up to since the cancellation of his star-making Ugly Betty and he told me how sad he was that it ended so soon.  I then asked him about his current projects, to which he replied he didn't have much on his plate for the time being.  He did tell me he'll be going to Scotland shortly to film a movie there, which will give him an opportunity to get closer to his roots, being of Scottish ancestry.

The actor I must say, is very dashing in-person.  Of course, his outfit was significantly toned-down from what we are used to seeing him in on Television and it is clear that he turned up the flamboyance a few notches in his run as Marc St. James.  Urie very kindly signed a few autographs for Mr. Will-W.: Pop Maven readers before posing for a few photos.  An amazing sport.  *gush*  Don't say I never take care of you, my Peaches!

Now, to qualify for a win all you have to do is leave a comment below with the answer to the following question, "True or False, has the cast of Ugly Betty ever been nominated for a Screen Actors' Guild Award?".  Please comment by Saturday, June 19, 2010 at 12:00 PM EST.  Winners will be contacted via e-mail.  Good luck!

  1. Yes, America Ferrera won the SAG for Female Actor in a comedy series in 2007. She and Vanessa Williams were both nominated in 2008 for Female Actor but neither won.

The show was also nominated in 2008for Outsanding performance by and ensemble, and America Ferrera was nominated again in 2009 for Female Actor.
