NEW MUSIC: GOLDFRAPP - ROCKET

Huge Goldfrapp fan here.  After having been teased for months now about new material from Head First, the British electronica duo's sixth studio album, new single Rocket has surfaced at last.  And upon an initial Google search, I've found the response unanimously positive. Popjustice loves it.  Arjan loves it.  Hard Candy loves it.  MuuMuse loves it.  And so does my beloved Adem With an E.  I'm sold.

The track is a welcome return to form after their organic-sounding 2008 effort Seventh Tree failed to achieve the success of previous releases.  Rocket in a nutshell is the cute, fashionable young nephew to Journey's Don't Stop Believin', which appears to be very "now" again with its new-found Glee success.  It will be released March 9, 2010, while the album will see a March 22, 2010 release date.  Will it be a smash hit?  Likely not.  Will loyal Goldfrapp fans be ecstatic?  Definitely.  It is refreshing seeing the duo kick back and shake off a bit of the pretension here.

And check out these front row shots I got of Allison and band at the Toronto leg of her North American Tour in 2008.

  1. I mused about it for today's post over on my blog, but yeah, it's surprisingly good in spite of several elements that, on paper, seem like they would not work. I've played it a zillion times already! Super fan here, as you know...
