KE$HA: TORONTO ALBUM RELEASE PARTY (PICS & VIDEO)

22 year-old singer-songwriter Ke$ha's rise to the top has been nothing short of meteoric.  Her first two singles, Right Round and TiK ToK, have broken digital download records and after having debuted at the coveted number one spot on the Billboard Hot 200 Album Chart, she looks poised to reach number one again with next single Blah Blah Blah.

Signed to RCA Records/Sony Music, the Nashville-born singer infuses some fun back into pop music once again.  She's a party girl who isn't shy about admitting her love for alcohol.  Although many are quick to write her off as a one hit wonder, clearly she has enough potential beneath the trashy facade.  Hitmaker Dr. Luke (P!nk, Katy Perry, Britney Spears, Kelly Clarkson) has given Ke$ha the ultimate vote of confidence, acting as her Executive Producer.

Performing for a crowd of 400+ this evening at an invite-only album release party for her debut effort Animal, Ke$ha performed a spirited 25 minute set, highlighting her album's catchiest material.  Ke$ha steered clear of any down-tempo material, zipping through tracks like Back$tabber, D.I.N.O.$.A.U.R., Party at a Rich Dude's House, Blah Blah Blah, Your Love is My Drug and of course, smash hit TiK ToK.  Careful to leave the audience wanting more, she did no encores, although the audience was enthused for the duration she was on-stage alongside her glam-rocker three piece band.  And despite rumours of her being a strong acoustic performer, we did not get a taste of Ke$ha unplugged.  Although vocally she wasn't amazing tonight, I have a feeling that she's only given us a glimpse of what she is truly capable of.

Though many have their doubts about her longevity, Ke$ha is very now and where pop music is right now: electronic pop.  Regardless where she will be in five years, it is undeniable that she holds an important place in pop music history as that girl next door who could.  Check out this video I got of her performing possible forthcoming single Your Love is My Drug.  Also, don't forget to read my review of Animal here. 1. I still don't get the appeal of her image, but maybe I am just not her demographic. Glad you had a blast at the party!
