I was invited to attend a Marketing Round Table tonight for Warner Bros.' Inception, which is coming out July 16, 2010 in North America and it was interesting going over possible television ads and additional posters for the film. In all honesty, I still don't know what the film is about after the hour-long meeting other than Leonardo DiCaprio's character being able to enter people's minds through their dreams. The general impression I get is that they are at a bit of a loss at how to creatively market this film. Most of us were pretty much confused after seeing potential television spots as to what the film was about, despite appearing very intense and riveting. The Agency was looking at the efficacy of social utility networks like Twitter and Facebook and we discussed previous public transit advertising strategies which were successful for films.
Somehow I don't think that they are going to need much help with the Marketing aspect of this movie as its cast already is a big enough draw including DiCaprio, Marion Cotillard, Michael Caine, Ken Watanabe, Ellen Page, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Cillian Murphy headlining the film. And besides, the film is out in a month and pretty much everybody's talking about it already, so what gives?
Anyhow, besides the point, I am giving away one full-sized Inception Movie Poster to one of my lucky readers. All you've got to do to qualify for the win is e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org with the name of any one of the film's stars before Friday, June 12, 2010. One entry per reader please; contest is open to all internationally. Good luck!
