MAX GREENFIELD IN TORONTO FOR "NEW GIRL" AT CITYTV UPFRONTS

FOX had much success last season with a brilliant new little Comedy from called New Girl and today we received the great news that it'll be back for a second Season, airing here in Canada on CityTV! Starring Zooey Deschanel, Jake Johnson. Lamorne Morris and Max Greenfield, the Series about one young Woman living with three male Roomates has performed both critically and in ratings. To announce the great news at the CityTV Upfronts today was Greenfield, who flew in from Los Angeles for a long-awaited visit to Toronto.

Although the Talent generally were late to arrive at Breakfast Television, Greenfield still took the time to greet Fans-in-waiting - every bit as irresistible as his Character Schmidt on New Girl.

You might also recognize the handsome Actor from Veronica Mars and Ugly Betty in which he had recurring roles. Definitely a Star on the rise. Can't imagine New Girl without Greenfield!

ZOOEY DESCHANEL ON "SNL": JEAN DUJARDIN SURPRISE APPEARANCE

What a surprise it was to see The Artist Star Jean Dujardin on last night's Saturday Night Live, hosted by Zooey Deschanel!  The Best Actor Frontrunner made an appearance on the Sketch, Les Jeunes de Paris - normally reserved best for Emma Stone - a subtle and appropriate bit of campaigning to nab that Oscar.

Deschanel was delightful, performing a cute song in a heart-patterned dress on her Ukulele about her Boyfriend forgetting Valentine's Day, which sounded similar to her viral version of What Are You Doing New Years' Eve?  Suffering a few fumbles with her dialogue, the New Girl Star's best Sketch teamed her with Kristen Wiig, both of them enticing a group of hungry Men at a restaurant called Crab Blast.  After teasing and teasing at great lengths, ultimately we learn there is no crab to be served!

Further to our ongoing Theory that Katy Perry and Zooey Deschanel are in fact the same person playing two different roles, is it just coincidence that Deschanel is splitting from her Husband Ben Gibbard, while Perry also is splitting from Husband Russell Brand at once?  If not the same person, they are practically like Siamese Twins separated at birth and then joined again by controversy!

ZOOEY DESCHANEL & JOSEPH GORDON-LEVITT: "WHAT ARE YOU DOING NEW YEAR'S EVE?"

It's like 500 Days of Summer all over again!  Zooey Deschanel - not to be confused with newly-single Katy Perry - and Co-star Joseph Gordon-Levitt reunite for this charming little Cover of What Are You Doing New Year's Eve? charmingly simple a Ukulele and a Guitar accompanying.  Too bad this isn't on Deschanel's latest Album A Very She & Him Christmas as it's wonderful. I just may have to forgive Gordon-Levitt for being so horrible to Fans during TIFF this past September.

Deschanel says on YouTube, "I have known Joe Gordon-Levitt for going on 12 years. We first met in the summer of 2000 while doing a tiny movie called Manic, where we bonded over a mutual appreciation for Harry Nilsson and Nina Simone and I have been lucky enough to call him one of my dearest friends ever since. When we did 500 Days of Summer 8 years later, we spent every lunch hour dancing to Marvin Gaye in the hair and make up trailer; we had loads of fun. I hope to do a thousand more movies with him because he's simply the best. But in the meantime, we made a little New Year's duet for all of you! The original by Nancy Wilson. LOL. Blogger Ademwithane dug-up this classic Tweet from 2009 where poor Katy Perry, who despite all her success even then was being confused for Zooey Deschanel.  Now especially based on the latter's resurgence in popularity with her Show New Girl, I'm sure this mass confusion is happening more than ever for both of them.  I mean, not only does one act first and sing second, but the other sings first and acts second, slowly canceling each other out with their talents.

I'm telling you, they are both benefiting each other's careers without even realizing it simply based on the God-given fact/gift that they look alike. Either that or they really are secret Twins in denial! Conspiracy.

I sometimes forget that Zooey Deschanel is a Singer too, making it that much more confusing for those who confuse the talented star of Fox's New Girl for Katy Perry, who also is now embarking on an acting career.  Oh come on, you have to admit they look alike!

Although admittedly I still am on-the-fence about New Girl mostly because I fear for its longevity, it was the first series of the 2011-2012 to get picked-up for a full season based on successful ratings. In fact, it is the highest-rated debut for Fox in over ten years when The Bernie Mac Show first was introduced.  

Hoping the Series helps launch Deschanel back into Film, where she really belongs because really she's the one benefiting most from it all.

OUR IDIOT BROTHER - MOVIE REVIEW

Although it might easily be forgotten in the tide of Blockbusters in our midsts, Sundance Film Festival favourite Our Idiot Brother from Director Jesse Peretz, is one this Summer's more witty Comedies.

Ned (Paul Rudd) is the naïve and under-achieving older Brother to tightly-wound Liz (Emily Mortimer), a career-driven (Elizabeth Banks) and free-spirited (Zoey Deschanel).  After being arrested for selling Marijuana to an undercover Police Officer, Ned serves a minor sentence of three months, before being released from Prison. Things change quickly though for him with his Girlfriend Janet (Kathryn Hahn) leaving him, finding a new Boyfriend Billy (T.J. Miller) and keeping their Dog Willie Nelson. At the same time, he is kicked-out of their Organic Farm House, which in turn makes him homeless.

Ned then turns to his Sisters for support but none of them truly take to his intrusion upon with their private lives. Before long, they begin to find him a nuisance as he unintentionally finds himself caught-up in their affairs. He stirs the tension between Liz and her Husband Dylan (Steve Coogan), manages to both damage both Miranda's relationship with Boyfriend Jeremy (Adam Scott) and a pivotal opportunity at her Vanity Fair job. Also, youngest Sister Natalie finds herself furious after Ned reveals her biggest secret to Girlfriend Cindy (Rashida Jones). But as their stories unfold and all the resentment mounts against Ned who is a convenient Scapegoat, we ponder whether or not he really is at fault and whether he simply is a catalyst to unravelling some deep-seated problems already brewing in his Sisters' own lives.

"LIKE CRAZY" AND "MY IDIOT BROTHER" ARE HITS AT SUNDANCE

Deadline is keeping a close tab on the Distribution deals being struck in Park City at the Sundance Film Festival this weekend and it looks like the one Film getting the most buzz is Like Crazy, a Romantic comedy about an British Girl visiting the U.S. and falling in love with a guy over there, she is told she has to go back to the U.K. after over-extending her visit.  

Paramount Pictures won in the bidding and it is said the deal was in-and-around the $4 million U.S. mark for worldwide rights. The Film stars Anton Yelchin, Felicity Jones and Jennifer Lawrence - the latter who created a stir last year in Winter's Bone.

My Idiot Brother, which we have been following here for a while now, is also receiving a fair amount of buzz after its Screening last night, expecting to close a deal with The Weinstein Co. or Relativity Media in the U.S.  Maple Pictures is already set to distribute in Canada.  It is almost guaranteed that the Film will be profitable with its stellar Cast of Paul Rudd, Elizabeth Banks, Rashida Jones and Zooey Deschanel and the buzz that it is quite heart-felt.

"MY IDIOT BROTHER" GAINING HEAVY BUZZ AT SUNDANCE

One Movie getting a serious about of buzz at the upcoming Sundance Film Festival held at the end of the month in Utah, is Jesse Peretz’s My Idiot Brother. The Comedy revolves around jailed Pot Dealer Ned, played by an unrecognizable Paul Rudd, who decides to take up time with each of his Sisters after being unable to live with his overbearing Mother.

The Film has an amazing Supporting Cast including Zooey Deschanel, Elizabeth Banks, Emily Mortimer and Rashida Jones. Although the Film has been picked-up in Canada by Maple Pictures, it is being shopped around in the U.S. still. With a Cast like that it should have no problems being acquired, you’d think.

With no release date set yet, the Film will premiere at Sundance this weekend and Peretz apparently will be there to present the Film and answer questions afterwards.  I am so jealous of those who get to attend!
