DIRECTOR BAZ LUHRMAN CRACKS HEAD OPEN: HALTS PRODUCTION ON "THE GREAT GATSBY"

Still from The Great Gatsby
Ouch! Director Baz Luhrmann (Moulin Rouge) has halted all production on his $125 million 3-D Spectacle The Great Gatsby, due in theatres next Christmas via Warner Bros.  The Aussie apparently had cracked his head on the weights on the end of a camera crane, resulting in Producers calling an early Christmas Holiday for the Cast (including Leonardo DiCaprio, Joel Edgerton, Tobey Maguire and Carey Mulligan) and Crew, whom are based currently in Sydney, Australia.

Read more about the incident in the Sydney Morning Herald.

ANDREW GARFIELD AT COMIC-CON FOR "THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN"

Andrew Garfield at TIFF 2010
With the Trailer for The Amazing Spider-Man (due July 2012 via Sony Pictures) surfacing the other day, many Fans including myself are asking the question - why they have to re-tell Peter Parker's transformation to Spider-Man all over again?  Although this question remains to be answered, the entire Cast including Emma Stone and Director Marc Webb, made an appearance earlier today  at Comic-Con in San Diego.  Star Andrew Garfield even showed-up dressed as Spider-Man - enough of a distraction from the burning question ...for me at least!

Garfield had nothing by praise for Tobey Maguire's interpretation of the coveted role telling attendees, “When I watch that first Spidey film, I lost my mind. I watched it back to back, twice in a row when I first saw it.”.  He also confirmed that Maguire has been supportive, revealing “He (Maguire) gave me his blessing. It meant the world to me, because I respect him so much in general and also what he did with the role.".

TOBEY MAGUIRE CAST IN ANG LEE'S "THE LIFE OF PI"

Tobey Maguire
After a bit of a hiatus, Tobey Maguire is ready for his close-up again. It was just reported that the Oscar-nominated Actor has been cast in the role of a Reporter in Ang Lee's Adaptation of The Life of Pi, a Canadian Award-winning novel by Yann Martel.  The Author studied at Trent University in Peterborough, Ontario.  As announced earlier, Maguire also is confirmed for a role in Baz Luhrmann's The Great Gatsby 3-D.

The Film will be about a 16 year-old Boy named Pi Patel who with Family leave India for a new life in Canada.  They pack up their menagerie of Animals and trek the dangerous Waters on a Boat where they are stranded for 227 days in a fight to survive.

The Life of Pi is slated for a late 2012 release and most of its production will take place in India, not Canada unfortunately.  Already with its pedigree though, I'd expect it to be a Key Contender in the Oscar race.

BEN AFFLECK ALMOST CONFIRMED FOR "THE GREAT GATSBY 3-D"

Ben Affleck - TIFF 2010
Although I'm not quite sure how it's going to work in 3-D, Director Baz Luhrmann's adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby is said to have lured its newest Cast member in Ben Affleck.

The Actor/Director is said to almost be confirmed for the role of Tom Buchanan, Husband of Daisy (Carey Mulligan) in the Story. Also attached to the project so far are Leonardo DiCaprio and Tobey Maguire.

Affleck seems to be thriving right now as a Director hot off the success of The Town, and is still in talks to direct Argo in Iran, which is based on the true story of the Hostage Crisis in Tehran in the late '70s.  Warner Bros. will be releasing both Argo and The Great Gatsby 3-D.
