Friends with Kids on DVD
One of the biggest hits of TIFF 2011 was Friends with Kids and after a few additional tune-ups and a decent run at the Theatres, the Jennifer Westfeldt acted, written and directed-Film is now seeing a DVD release.  We were at its Premiere - click here for a walk down Memory Lane!

Friends with Kids centers around two best Friends, Julie (Westfeldt) and Jason (Adam Scott) who decide to raise a Child together. Although their feelings for one another are completely platonic, we begin to see complexities develop as they each carry-on in their own respective romantic lives.

Starring an outstanding Supporting Cast which includes Jon Hamm, Kristen Wiig, Maya Rudolph, Megan Fox, Chris O'Dowd, Edward Burns and more, Friends with Kids is equal parts a Drama as it is a Comedy and a Romance.  It hits stores on Tuesday, July 17, 2012.

Touchwood PR, VVS Films and Mr. Will-W.:Pop Maven are excited to offer Canadian Readers a chance to win one of five DVD copies up for grabs.  All you have to do to enter is "like" this Post at Mr. Will-W.:Pop Maven on Facebook and be following me on Twitter.  Your deadline is Friday, July 13, 2012Good luck.

MICK JAGGER HOSTS "SNL": KRISTEN WIIG SAYS FAREWELL

Mick Jagger on SNL
Fantastic 37th Season Finale for NBC's Saturday Night Live! Rock Legend Mick Jagger not only hosted, but also filled the role of Musical Guest last night in a great display of acting chops.  Jagger showed his range, playing a Gay Actor in mock Game Show Catch Phrase which saw him trying to flirt with his Game Partner (Taran Killam), while dropping some not so subtle clues about his Sexuality.

Jagger also did a brilliant job in a Karaoke Skit which saw Fred Armisen and Bobby Moynihan do impressions of him as he sat tortured, failing to see the resemblance.  In his Musical Performance, he was paired together with some of his favourite new Acts, Foo Fighters and also Arcade Fire showing that he's still got those Jagger-like Moves.

Mad Men Star Jon Hamm even made an appearance on the Show's Cold Opening titled The Lawrence Welk Show which had him appear as an Italian Crooner, Johnny Prosciuotto (a play on Jon Hamm).  His Performance kept getting crashed however by Kristen Wiig's unwelcome attentions as she tried seducing him onstage with her disproportionately-sized hands. Brilliant. Who knew Hamm could sing so well?

Last night also was Kristen Wiig's Swan Song on SNL, receiving a Tribute from her Co-Stars and Jagger, presented in a Skit wearing a Cap and Gown as "one particular Student who won't be returning this Summer".  Holding back her tears, Wiig danced to Ruby Tuesday alongside with the Show's Ensemble and Jagger.  She will be missed.

If you're in Canada, watch Clips on Global Television's SNL Website here.

LINDSAY LOHAN ON "SNL"

Lindsay Lohan on SNL
Drawing some mixed reviews from her big return to NBC's Saturday Night Live, one cannot help but feel a bit underwhelmed especially after all the build-up leading to tonight's Episode hosted by Lindsay Lohan. Now the problems weren't all entirely all her from a performance standpoint, but more the lack of wit in some of the material she was relegated to.

Starting off with some big laughs, a blonde and almost unrecognizable Lohan put her pride aside and poked fun at her own personal problems during the Show's introduction with her Ankle Monitor going off jokingly as she stepped too far center stage. Kenan Thompson then came on-stage, checking her pupils and then getting a pat-down from Kristen Wiig, before we were re-assured that Lohan's certified and ready-to-go.  Jon Hamm even was on-standby in the event they needed a Back-up.  They kid.  Or were they?

KATE WINSLET WINS FOR "MILDRED PIERCE" AT PRIMETIME EMMYS

Kate Winslet at 63rd annual Primetime Emmy Awards
Is there any Award left which Kate Winslet hasn't won? The gorgeous Oscar Winner won Outstanding Lead Actress in a Miniseries or a Movie at last night's Primetime Emmy Awards held at Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles. Winslet won for the HBO Miniseries, Mildred Pierce. Am eagerly awaiting its DVD release!

In other categories, ABC's Modern Family won Outstanding Comedy Series, while AMC's Mad Men won Outstanding Drama Series.

Despite Jon Hamm not getting Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series again for the fourth consecutive year, his lovely Partner Jennifer Westfeldt did get a bit of amazing news during the Awards broadcast.  Westfeldt's self-directed/written/acted Friends with Kids, which premiered last week at TIFF 2011, struck a  distribution deal with Lionsgate Films in the U.S. (Alliance Films likely will handle in Canada).  Hamm also stars in the Film.  See Photos from the Premiere here.

"FRIENDS WITH KIDS" PREMIERE AT TIFF WITH MEGAN FOX, JON HAMM, ADAM SCOTT & JENNIFER WESTFELDT

Megan Fox and Brian Austin Green in Toronto - September 2011
Although tonight marked the Premiere of Actress Jennifer Westfeldt's directorial debut Friends with Kids, all eyes really were on the gorgeous Megan Fox on the Red Carpet tonight at Ryerson Theatre.  The Comedy premiering at TIFF 2011 received plenty of praise from its Audience and its Cast were kind enough to spend a generous amount of time greeting Fans.  Fox is said to have opted to greet Fans instead of sitting down to watch the Film.

I was one of the lucky ones who actually got a Photo with Fox, as she has built a reputation of not doing it prior.  Actually her Husband Brian Austin Green was the one to take the Photo, as Fox was in fine form this evening, ravishing in red.

Also in attendance this evening at the Premiere were Fox's Co-stars Jon Hamm, Adam Scott and Director Westfeldt (Hamm's longtime Partner).  Unfortunately, Kristen Wiig and Maya Rudolph were unable to attend the festivities.

JON HAMM TO DIRECT SEASON FIVE PREMIERE OF "MAD MEN"

Jon Hamm - TIFF 2010
Although we won't be seeing any new episodes of AMC's Mad Men until Spring 2012, this latest bit of news will have Fans of the Drama Series excited.  TVLine has confirmed that Donald Draper (Jon Hamm) himself not stars in the Series, but also will be directing the eagerly-awaited Premiere of Season Five.

Hamm tells TVLine, “I watched Slattery do it, and he handled it with such grace and ability and ease,” he continues, before adding with a laugh, “I figured if he can do it, shitt, I can do it too.”.  Co-star John Slattery directed two episodes of the Show last season.

The handsome Actor has been making the most of his time off from filming, with appearances on Saturday Night Live and 30 Rock.  He currently can be seen in the massive hit Comedy Bridesmaids, opposite SNL's Kristen Wiig.  He also has been busy producing and acting in his long-time partner Jennifer Westfeldt's  her upcoming directorial debut Friends with Kids, which also stars Bridesmaids Co-stars Wiig and Maya Rudolph.

Westfeldt and Hamm were seen last September in Toronto schmoozing on the Party Circuit during TIFF.  Perhaps we'll be seeing their collaboration in Toronto this Fall?

BRIDESMAIDS - MOVIE REVIEW

Still from Bridesmaids
Easily one of the best Films of 2011, Bridesmaids is equal parts heartfelt as it is hilarious. The Paul Feig (Superbad) Film centers around Annie (Kristen Wiig), a single lovelorn Woman who is coping with the failure of her Bakery which recently went Bankrupt. Her BFF since childhood Lilian (Maya Rudolph) then suddenly names her Maid of Honour at her upcoming wedding, but Annie really hasn't a clue what to do. Above this, she must deal with the menacing presence of the socially graceful Helen (Rose Byrne), who over the past eight months has become quite close to Lilian, threatening her role as BFF/Maid of Honour.

Annie is involved with Tim (Jon Hamm), a Playboy who takes advantage of her and has no plans to commit to her. Getting pulled-over while driving one day, she encounters Nathan (Chris O'Dowd) who just might the right Guy for her. Being challenged by her own personal Demons and insecurities, Annie finds herself caught in a cycle of self-sabotage and with Lilian's wedding looming, we are concerned whether ultimately she'll  be able to pull herself out this slump.

Although Judd Apatow fills the role of Producer here, his influence is palpable even with Feig helming the Film.  As normally is the case with Apatow's films, they often clock-in past the two-hour mark, yet on that note the characters in his stories are thoughtfully crafted with genuine struggles.  Bridesmaids is no exception.

JON HAMM, JIMMY FALLON, LINDSEY BUCKINGHAM & CHRIS COLFER SURPRISE ON ED HELMS EPISODE OF "SNL"

Ed Helms on Saturday Night Live
In what was one of the best Saturday Night Live episodes in quite some time, all stops were pulled for this taping hosted by The Hangover star Ed Helms. Guest appearances from Glee's Chris Colfer, Fleetwood Mac's Lindsey Buckingham, Mad Men's Jon Hamm and former SNL alumni Jimmy Fallon, plus Musical Guest Paul Simon not only surprised - they impressed!

Long-running Animated Sketch The Ambiguously Gay Duo which hyperbolizes the Homoeroticism of Comic Hero Duos (i.e. Batman & Robin), has been a favourite of mine for quite some time. Last night they decided to throw in an extra wist and give it the Live Action treatment.  And the results were hilarious.  Watch below as Hamm and Fallon team-up in an eye-popping way to save the world.

AMC & MATT WEINER REACH "MAD MEN" DEAL

Still from Mad Men
And order was restored. It was announced earlier today that AMC and Mad Men Producer Matt Weiner have struck a deal which will renew the series for a fifth and sixth season. Adweek reports the possibility of a seventh season is strong.

On the Docket during negotiations were issues such as Weiner’s Salary, Cast reductions and the length of Episodes. It is said that despite being the most expensive show on Television in costing $3 million per Episode to make, its third season brought in less than $2 million in Advertising Revenue. Maybe AMC weren’t the Bad Guys after all.

It was finally agreed upon that no Cast members will be cut in the upcoming fifth season of Mad Men, set to air March 2012 and that Weiner will allow a total two additional minutes of Advertising per Episode, which hopefully won’t be too noticeable. Yay.

JESSICA PARÉ IN TORONTO FOR "MAD MEN"

Jessica Pa
Montreal native and now Santa Monica-resident Jessica Paré flew in last night to promote Season Four of AMC's Mad Men's DVD release.  Doing a round of Press today which included appearances on CityTV's Breakfast Television, followed by an appearance on Jian Ghomeshi's Q Radio on CBC, the Actress' timing couldn't have been better considering all the controversy surrounding the future of the Series right now.

As mentioned earlier today, Mad Men's Producer Matthew Weiner is currently in heated negotiations with AMC, which in a profit-minded decision is said to be ordering a reduction in Cast Members and also  a shortening of Episodes to allow for more Advertisements during its Airtime.  With Production at a standstill right now and no new episodes slated for the 2011 Calendar Year, the future of the Emmy and Golden Globe-winning Period Drama is uncertain.

Good logic surely will prevail from AMC perhaps based solely on Mad Men's ardently loyal following and hard-earned status as a Critical Darling.  And did I mention what a big Mad Men Fan I am?  I absolutely adored Paré's performance as Megan, Don Draper's level-headed Secretary-turned-Love Interest.  To me, she is one of the brightest highlights of the past Season.

I did catch Paré on her way into an appearance this evening at a fittingly Period-appropriate Club in the  City's Entertainment District, but surprisingly was denied a Photograph upon her arrival after asking kindly.  Although it doesn't happen often, it does happen occasionally and it's unfortunate that it had to come from a fellow Canadian. She had spotted a Camera on one Fan and immediately asked him, "Where are these Photos going to be appearing?", before elaborating "I'd much prefer to be photographed inside without my coat on".

I myself however, did not possess a $150 Ticket to be "inside" the intimate event for Globe & Mail readers, but mind you I am no less a Fan of hers.  Making the most of my wait in the Cold, I was reduced to asking if she could sign a Photo or two in the v. least, including one for my Readers.   The request was met with general disinterest and a "Sorry, we've gotta go" as one of her Handlers gave me a genuinely apologetic look.

I was then relegated to waiting outside the venue where Paré could be heard speaking about her role as Megan and her experience on the Series, speaking with enthusiasm on her Microphone.   She could be heard mentioning Christina Hendricks' character Joan and how tough she is.

Upon exiting the event, she proceeded to enter her Town Car.  Once again I requested a Photo with good intentions and seeing that she was in a rush earlier, I gave her the benefit of the doubt that her initial rejection was a result of time constraints perhaps. "I'd rather not", she said to the Photo request, before personalizing the above Photo begrudgingly.  "I appreciate you Guys waiting, but I've got to go to Dinner", she said clearly with more pressing concerns on her mind as she seated herself in her Town Car for a short duration before heading off.

WILL AMC'S "MAD MEN" BE CANCELLED?

Matt Weiner, Producer of Mad Men
In a devastating bit of news, there are rumours of AMC's Mad Men possibly being cancelled. Before we overreact, negotiations are said to be heated right now the network looking to boost profitability by cutting three Cast members and reducing Episodes further by three minutes to allow more Advertisers spots on the program.  Producer Matt Weiner who has been an integral part of the Show's success, vehemently is against this move.

The irony is killing me as this struggle sounds like a Modern Day episode of the Advertising Agency-centered Period Drama.  The Huffington Post has more on the ordeal which has halted Mad Men's fifth Season for now.

Hopefully sooner, before later.  The thought of Mad Men: The Movie - Sterling Cooper in Abu Dhabi does excite me though.  LOL

MR. WILL-W.'S GREATEST MOMENTS OF 2010: A REVIEW OF CELEBRITIES WHO VISITED TORONTO

What can I say? 2010 has been a wonderful year for Mr. Will-W.:Pop Maven, seeing many highs in terms of exciting new content and readership. Although we’re by no means Perez Hilton or Just Jared, I  maintain a humble grassroots philosophy here.  I don't believe in bashing other Bloggers by constantly calculating their shortcomings, nor do I make boastful claims of being "the best", because I'm not.  I have come with no real Media qualifications other than my opinions, but I  want always to be able to improve.

You'll find that a vast majority of the Celebrity Photos seen here are self-taken and not sold for profit.   Unlike many Celebrity Gossip sites where Bloggers sit in front of their Laptops comfortable in their often biting anonymity, I interact first-hand with many of the Celebrities who appear here. What you're reading comes first-hand - not observed from behind a bush with Binoculars nor re-interpreted.

Besides this, where else can you get detailed Reviews of Albums and Films before everybody else?  I review these beforehand so that you can make better informed choices on where you spend your hard-earned money.  And need I mention Mr. Will-W.'s Exciting Giveaways? This past year alone, we've seen Readers win Marc Jacobs Cologne, Scissor Sisters VIP Concert Tickets, CDs by artists like Rihanna and Ke$ha and Signed Photos from the likes of Katy Perry, Mariah Carey, Cory Monteith, James Franco, Sam Worthington and more!  Sponsors stand behind the quality of content featured on Mr. Will-W.:Pop Maven and this speaks for itself.

I thank you all personally for your loyalty to me. Things only will continue to get even more exciting in 2011.  Stick around.  Follow on Twitter or become a Fan on Facebook.

Looking back on the year, there were many bright moments and narrowing it down to a Best-of has been difficult. I am blessed to live in a City which always has something exciting going on and would not be able to do any of this without Toronto. So indirectly, all of this is a big thank you to the City I love most.  I live, breathe, eat and speak Toronto.

Without further ado, here are Mr. Will-W.:Pop Maven’s Greatest Moments of 2010:

Taylor Swift
14. Seeing Taylor Swift.  She's by far the hottest thing right now in Pop Music from a numbers standpoint - and she's not even really Pop, she's Country.  I was lucky enough to see Taylor Swift in November at CTV's Canada AM, part of her crazy day of Promotions in Toronto for third album Speak Now.  Whatever she did, it worked because she sold 1,047,000 copies of the CD in its first week.  This came soon after rumours sparked of her dating Jake Gyllenhaal whom I also got to meet in May.  Although her Publicist kept her at a distance from everyone, it was still a privilege to hear the v. grounded young Singer/Songwriter just be herself.  I'll be seeing her for the first time in Concert next July and am kinda stoked about it, really.

Sir Paul McCartney
13. Seeing Sir Paul McCartney. To say I was only a couple feet away from Sir Paul McCartney in itself is enough to brag about for a lifetime. Although he was pretty much all work, no play during his two days in Toronto this past August, his presence was felt definitely. I caught McCartney quickly rolling down the window of his Escalade to throw a quick wave to Fans outside his Hotel, before heading off to his show at Air Canada Centre. With Vinyl Records, Sharpies, CDs and Cameras all aimed his direction, it was Beatlemania allover again. It was incredibly quick and incredibly memorable.

Andrew Garfield and Me
12. Meeting Andrew Garfield. Although many of us are just getting to know him, Garfield by Summer 2012 will be everywhere due to his new high-profile role as Spider-Man. This year alone, he appeared in two widely acclaimed titles, Never Let Me Go (Mark Romanek) and more familiarly The Social Network (David Fincher). I met the talented Brit at the Premiere of Never Let Me Go this past September at TIFF. Although a bit awkward with the fame thing, he still was a Gentleman. Having seen The Social Network just days prior (thanks Nadia), I delivered him great praise to which he replied, "What?  How is it that you've seen it already and I haven't?".  I took two Photos with him and hilariously, he wasn’t quite sure which way to look both times. Just having garnered a Golden Globe nomination for his portrayal as Eduardo Saverin, one of the co-founders of Facebook in The Social Network, he’s definitely a major contender for Best Supporting Actor at next February’s Oscars. Look out.

MEGAN FOX FILMING "FRIENDS WITH KIDS" WITH JON HAMM, JENNIFER WESTFELDT AND KRISTEN WIIG

Production Photo from Friends with Kids

Finally, a role in a non-Action film.  Megan Fox just posted this Behind-the-Scenes Photo on her Facebook Fan Page from the he set of her latest project Friends with Kids.  The Film is being written/produced/directed and acted by Jennifer Westfeldt, who also happens to be the longtime partner of red hot Jon Hamm.  Hamm also will star, along with the amazingly funny Kristen Wiig of Saturday Night Live.  It it said that Anne Hathaway originally was to star in the project too but that never came to fruition and it looks as though Fox has replaced her.  She will be dating the character of Adam Scott.

Its plot is a bit unconventional, revolving around  a pair of Best Friends who decide to have Children and date other people in response to the pressures of being married and having Kids.  Production is taking place in New York City right now and Friends with Kids is expected to hit theatres in 2012.

Crossing fingers that this gets a screening at TIFF as both Hamm and Westfeldt were seen this past September mingling from party to party, possibly networking for the project?

JON HAMM "SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE" PHOTOS

Photographer Mary Ellen Matthews has the best job ever.  The New York City-based Photographer  who resides in East Hampton, gets to photograph the weekly promo photos seen between commercial breaks on Saturday Night Live.  Check out these amazing pictures she took of Jon Hamm having fun, for last night's Halloween episode.  Beautiful.

They're so going to be the Wallpapers on my Blackberry and Laptop forever!  Maybe I should make a collage out of them so I can look at all four at once?  Is that too indulgent?

JON HAMM POKES FUN AT THE STARS OF YOUTUBE ON "SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE"

Hosting Saturday Night Live for the third time, handsome Jon Hamm delivered some memorable laughs on last night's Halloween show, with musical guest Rihanna.  One Digital Short had the singer and Andy Samberg singing and rapping their Bank Heist a la Bonnie & Clyde, with Rihanna capturing her compliant sex victim Hamm, in addition to a bag of Loot.

In this one particular Skit below titled I Didn't Ask for This, some fun is poked at people who have gained notoriety through embarrassing YouTube Viral Clips. Hamm plays a man who reunites with his estranged son and has ... well, a rather ugly and tearful reunion. Just look at that face. Hilarious!

The Skit captures perfectly the essence of why Viral Clips can often be funny.  They shouldn't be funny, but you can't help but laugh at others' misfortunes. I know....  horrible.  In addition to this, Hamm did a fine job on last night's episode, fully utilizing those acting chops and even made-out with Jason Sudeikis on a Motorcycle in one Skit!  Wow!

THE LEADING LADY OF AMC'S MAD MEN

Mad Men's Elisabeth Moss, January
Jones
and Christina Hendricks
Make no mistake about it,  I love AMC's Mad Men.  In fact, it is one of the few shows on Television - albeit Cable Television - which I have watched religiously from beginning onwards as my limited attention span hinders my loyalty to other programs.  Despite my hectic schedule, there is always that one weekend where things calm down a bit which I dedicate to catching-up on the series.  This weekend I managed to zip through the first 11 of 13 episodes of Season Four and I must say that the show is better than ever; beautifully developed story lines and truly interesting, complex characters who incessantly we want more from.

The ensemble cast on Mad Men is magnificent.  They keep pushing each other to dig deeper with every Season and Jon Hamm, who I got to meet only briefly during TIFF last month, is devastatingly good still as Donald Draper.  We take joy in watching him throw jabs at anyone who dares challenge his authority, yet at the same time are entranced by his downward spiral, even though he always gets saved just when he seems to hit rock bottom.

But let's be real here for a moment.  Although the Men might be at the forefront of Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce, this show is really about the Women.  The many, many, many gorgeous love interests of Donald Draper - some weak, some strong, yet all vulnerable when it comes to his hot-and-cold habits of affection.  One by one, they each peel a layer off his enigma of a character and in Season Four we meet Dr. Faye Miller played by Cara Buono.  Despite being strong, independent and in-control of her life, even she is not immune from the poisons of Donald.

TIFF: TRAGEDY AND CELEBRATION EXHIBIT

.... so we're five days into TIFF and I'm exhausted, having slept just 10 hours over the last four days. Things will be quieting down a bit soon, but I hope you guys have been having as much fun as I have!

To reward you, I'm putting on an Art Exhibit called TIFF: Tragedy and Celebration. I hope you have fun at the Exhibit and tell all your friends about it. We do have a Seniors and Students' Discount on Wednesdays. LOL.

The Tragedy of Hamm
The Celebration of Eckhart

On another note, could one of my readers with amazing Photoshop skills help save my otherwise amazing photo with Jon Hamm?  Please?  Love you!

INSTYLE MAGAZINE CONVICTION TIFF PARTY

Below are just a few of the faces seen tonight at the InStyle Magazine Party for Tony Goldwyn's Conviction. Just after midnight Betty Ann Waters, whom the movie is based upon, could be seen stumbling onto the street inebriated completely, before she and her friends were loaded onto an SUV to head off to Queen Street hotspot Sweaty Betty's for drinks. How fitting.

Aaron Eckhart
Jon Hamm, Jennifer Westfeldt
Justin Long
A separate SUV came prior to load what would be a star-studded ride including Hilary Swank, Justin Long, Juliette Lewis, Sam Rockwell and Tony Goldwyn.  As always, Lewis was out-of-it.  But hey, it's a party!  Hopefully she'll be coherent for her 9 AM Press Conference for the film.

And of course Aaron Eckhart was a complete surprise as were Mad Men star Jon Hamm and his partner Jennifer Westfeldt.  Hamm is one of those people who I just seem to have no Photo-luck with, first accidentally deleting a perfectly lovely shot of him from Friday at The Town's Press Conference and now after taking a perfect photo together, it turned out that our photo was blurry!  Help!  I need a Photoshop Doctor.  This is an emergency!!
