DAVID BECKHAM, LANA DEL REY & JOEL KINNAMAN FOR H&M

The Celebrity Faces of H&M
A few exciting new updates from our friends at H&M!  As we all know already, Lana Del Rey is the chosen Face for the Fashion Retailer's Fall 2012 Collection for Women. An amazing Commercial featuring new Track Blue Velvet, directed by Johan Renck, is set to premiere Wednesday, September 19, 2012 on hm.com.  In this Campaign, Del Rey wears key pieces from the Collection, including a pink Angora Sweater, patterned Leggings, a Tweed Biker Jacket and a form-fitting Tweed Dress with leather Details.

For their Men's Collection none other than a Toronto-bound Joel Kinnaman will be fronting the Collection.  The Swedish Actor stars in Sony Pictures' RoboCop, set to film next month in the City, pairing with Director Jonas Åkerlund on a Commercial for H&M, set to premiere Friday, October 5, 2012 on hm.comKinnaman says, "H&M makes it easy for a guy to look great every single day and create a personal style. Their men’s Collection always gives me a choice of how I want to dress, whether it is sharp in a Suit and Polo-Neck, or more relaxed in Jeans and a Tweed Jacket. That’s why I’m so happy to be the face of H&M this season".  The Retailer also currently is using another Face currently in Toronto, Bill Skarsgård, in-town filming Hemlock Grove.

And what better way to celebrate the massively-successful  David Beckham Bodywear at H&M Collection than with some new Pics?  The international Sex Symbol has just shot another set of Photos with Alisdair McLellan in Los Angeles, soon to be unveiled.  Beckham's Collection is available permanently in 1,800 stores worldwide.

MARNI AT H&M COLLECTION PREVIEW

Marni at H&M
Playful, fun and glamorous would fittingly describe the forthcoming Marni at H&M Collection. The Summer-centric line pays homage heavily to the '60s through the early '70s - an Era remembered by Fashion Icons like Mary Tyler Moore and Jackie Onassis. The Italian Fashion House founded by Consuelo Castiglioni, promises hypnotic Tribal and Bauhaus-inspired prints meant to be paired in an array of unlikely and chic combinations, at affordable price points. There might even be some inflections here from H&M's 2008 Collaboration with Finnish Textile Maker, Marimekko?

The vibrant limited-time-only Collection also is highlighted by a selection of bold, colourful and larger-than-life Accessories and also a recurring theme among the Men's and Women's pieces are the prevalence of dual tones and patterns on tops and dresses.  Even if you feel you lack the bravado to pull-off all the mixing and matching, some of these pieces would work well paired with some of your solid-coloured wardrobe basics.

And how could one forget their Charity T-shirts in support of Japanese Relief efforts? 25% of profits from Marni at H&M's super-adorable T-shirts will go to the Red Cross Japan.

See some pieces from the Collection taken from tonight's Media Reception at the elegant Trump International Hotel and Tower here in Toronto:

VICTORIA BECKHAM GRABS NEW YORK FASHION WEEK "BY THE BALLS"

Victoria Beckham in New York - February 2012
Don't say she doesn't have a sense of humour! Victoria Beckham posed for this hilarious Photo uploaded by English Football/Fashion Icon David Beckham on his Facebook Page while in New York for Fashion Week.  The former Spice Girl-turned-Fashion Empire playfully sticks out her hand, conveniently positioned to create the illusion she is cradling her famous Husband's Manhood in a Billboard for H&M's David Beckham Bodywear Collection in the background.  David posts along with the Photo, "So proud of my wife taking #NYFW by the balls". Funny.

Sources at H&M are saying there are plans to continue introducing more pieces from David's Collection to their stores on an on-going basis with reports that it is selling well.

Victoria is said to be pleased about the positive reception she received at her 2012-2013 Fall/Winter Collection Show at the Public Library with Vogue's Anna Wintour sitting in the front row alongside David and Baby Harper Seven, who were there to cheer her on.

Secretly though, I am hoping the Collection does well, but not so well that she'll never consider reuniting with the Spice Girls for another Tour!

2012 SUPER BOWL TV SPOTS PREVIEW

Jerry Seinfeld's 2012 Acura NSX Super Bowl TV Spot
I know little about Football, but I know always to be excited for those Super Bowl Commercials which surface right around now.  Many already have surfaced online, although surely many participating companies have a few more over-the-top tricks up their sleeves for Sunday night. Already, there are a number of standouts already this year including Jerry Seinfeld's TV Spot for Acura NSX which sees him try to bribe his way up the Waiting List; Jay Leno even pops by right at the end!

Coincidentally, another Funnyman Will Arnett - who along with Seinfeld will be coming to Toronto in April for Toronto East General Hospital - brings out a few laughs in an Ad for online streaming website, Hulu too.  Matthew Broderick surely will bring-out a few smiles in reprising his famed Ferris Bueller role, taking a day off in his Honda CRV - the Ad even has him singing in Chinese!

Without any shortage of Star Power, H&M also unveils their David Beckham Bodywear Collection TV Spot, although I'm uncertain whether or not stores will sell-out by the time it airs this Sunday since it is to be released this Thursday.  Supermodel Adriana Lima also will be appearing in an Ad for Teleflora, although this has yet to surface online.

See some of this year's awesome Super Bowl TV Spots below:

THE DAVID BECKHAM BODYWEAR COLLECTION - SUPER BOWL TV SPOT

The David Beckham Bodywear Collection
Now that's a lot of Tattoos. The David Beckham Bodywear Collection for H&M TV Spot to air during the Super Bowl has surfaced, and although we never really fully see a shot of the Fashion Icon/English Football Star in his Underwear, we get some glimpses of the detailing on his Athletic Boxers. And of course, his Tattoos.

If that song sounds mighty familiar, you did hear a Disco Version of it in Kill Bill, Vol. 1 by Santa Esmerelda.  This version of Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood is by The Animals, who covered Nina Simone's 1964 original.

FIRST LOOK: "THE DAVID BECKHAM BODYWEAR COLLECTION FOR H&M"

The David Beckham Bodywear Collection for H&M
Back in July it was announced that English Football and Fashion Icon David Beckham would be collaborating on a Bodywear line with H&M and what do you know, it's almost time! This first images of David Beckham modelling pieces - including Trunk Briefs - have just surfaced and if at about $15 CAN this doesn't sell some Undies, I don't know what will!

The Line was conscious in not overtly branding and after 18 months of brainstorming, they came up with a variety of Briefs, Boxers, Vests, T-shirts, Pyjamas and Long Johns.

Nothing like a Celebrity truly walking the walk by using the goods they're hawking.  I mean, do you really expect us to believe Mariah Carey is eating that Jenny Craig Cuisine?

The David Beckham Bodywear Collection for H&M will be available in 40 countries and 1800 stores worldwide and online on February 2, 2012 in-time for Valentine's Day.

H&M ANNOUNCES "THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO" COLLECTION

Trish Summerville for H&M
As if it weren't exciting enough that David Fincher's The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is hitting theatres over the Holidays, H&M has announced today that they will be releasing a line of Clothing inspired by the Film by Costume Designer Trish Summerville.  Summerville oversaw the same designs which Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara will be donning in the U.S. adaptation of the Swedish hit.

Summerville says, "Salander’s look is very real and very lived in, with pieces that her character has worn for a long time, like her jackets that act as her armour to shield her from the world. I wanted the collection to have the essence and strength of Salander, with a fashion edge, and I’m pleased with the result! My goal is forwomen to find pieces in it that they love and then mix them with their own wardrobe to create their own personal style.".

KATE BECKINSALE IN TORONTO FOR "TOTAL RECALL"

Kate Beckinsale & Mr. Will-W.
One of my favourite Actresses undoubtedly is Kate Beckinsale and although she's been in the City for the Toronto International Film Festival in the past promoting titles like Underworld and Nothing but the Truth, unfortunately I'd never had a chance to meet her.  Arriving last month for her Husband Len Wiseman's Total Recall Reboot in which she plays the role of Lori (married to Colin Farrell's Doug), the beautiful Beckinsale has been spotted out and about by Fans and Paparazzi alike. Because I still hadn't seen her, I was beginning to think she was somewhat of a Mirage.

I had spotted Beckinsale on a stroll with her Daughter Lily, Husband Len, another young Lady and their two Dogs Ingrid and Pocket.  The latter even has been spotted on-Set with her.  Careful not to be intrusive, I had asked if on her way back she could take a minute to chat and take a Photo with me and absolutely she fulfilled her promise!

Upon finally meeting her, I confessed  what a great Fan I am of 2008's Nothing but the Truth.  Despite few people seeing that Film, her portrayal of a Journalist who had taken her integrity to the extreme affected me deeply.  "Yes, it's a shame that it never really made it to the theatres as I was proud of that one", she admits.  I commented also how overall I thought Doug Liman's 2010 Film Fair Game (inspired also by the story of shamed Spy Valerie Plame) paled in comparison and she was touched genuinely, saying "Yes, we thought the same!".

She, Lily (daughter of Michael Sheen) and one Young Lady visiting also noticed that I had brought my Dog Billy out for a walk and the three of them were rather smitten by him.  Beckinsale asked, "Is he a Shih Tzu? and she absolutely was correct!  Their Dogs Pocket and Ingrid - both Female - were so adorably sweet, jumping on my leg.  And the two young Ladies present were so sweet wishing me a good night before they head off after our Chat.

PREVIEW THE LANVIN FOR H&M HIVER 2010 COLLECTION FOR MEN AND WOMEN

Lanvin for H&M Hiver 2010
Classic. Flashy. Playful. Elegant. These are words I would use to describe the eagerly-anticipated Lanvin for H&M Hiver 2010 Collection by Alber Elbaz and Lucas Ossendrijver. Oh yes, I've forgotten affordable too. I am honoured to have been invited among an exclusive group of Taste Makers tonight to preview at the Art Gallery of Ontario, the Collection due in stores November 20, 2010 in North America and three days later Worldwide. Only 200 H&M stores will be carrying the limited edition pieces.

I must say that you Ladies have a lot to be excited about. Elbaz's Lanvin for H&M pieces are for the Confident Woman, who is unafraid of Colour, Prints, Ruffles, Bare Shoulders, Exposed Legs. The Men's pieces by Ossendrijver take fewer risks, mostly consisting of Essentials and sprinkling them with an essence of glamour in small adornments like sewn-in Pocket Squares, Shiny Buttons, Flowers, Frays, Oversized Bow-Ties; simple yet distinguishable.  Traces of early Madonna, Lady Gaga and Carrie Bradshaw could be found particularly in the Women's Collection.

Between sips of their Signature Lemonade and bites of an array of Crostini topped with Grilled Scallops/Caramelized Figs/Foie Gras & Red Pepper Jelly, Mushroom Quiches, Prosciutto on Skewers and much more, I got to chat with quite a few of the Fashionistas in attendance.  And the Ladies expressed pure unadulterated joy at their options.  It's always lovely meeting people who read my Blog as it gets lonely on this side of the Monitor!

Below are some highlights I found from the Lanvin for H&M Hiver 2010 Collection.  I'm sure you're all as excited as I was!

CLASSIC FRENCH SAILOR TEES AT H&M: BEST DEAL IN TOWN

No matter where you go, you will not be able to avoid this summer's biggest fashion rage, the Classic French Sailor Tee. Upon my weekly shopping run I came across perhaps the best deal in town - Chain retailer H&M is selling these tops for Men and Women at a ridiculous price of $5.95 CAN each. The shirts come in a variety of colours like Black, Red, Yellow, Turquoise/Yellow and more. Buy a stack of them. You just can't go wrong - as long you don't clash with me.... I'm watching you!

What got me was a Coco Chanel-inspired long sleeve Sailor's Shirt... for Men at $29.99 CAN.  The look is timeless and an essential for any wardrobe, undoubtedly experiencing a resurgence due to Audrey Tautou (above) sporting the look in last winter's Coco Avant Chanel.

PRODUCT WATCH: JIMMY CHOO FOR H&M

I love H&M. I have been in eager anticipation mode since hearing that designer Jimmy Choo would be designing exclusive pieces for the chain retailer. The collection which launches Saturday, November 14, 2009 at select locations, was unveiled on their website recently and I must say I am a little underwhelmed.

In terms of the Mens' Collection, there is a complete lack of creativity and selection altogether. There are a few pairs of boots being sold in the reasonable $150-200 range (especially considering they bear the Jimmy Choo name). In addition, there are a couple of stunning bags (Messenger and Weekender) at $250 each, while jeans are available in the $75+ range. Times are tough right now and perhaps H&M and Jimmy Choo should have measured the market a little better in terms of offering more middle price range pieces. It's either spend $30 on a plain t-shirt or $129.00 on a generic knit sweater. There is no real in-between. I mean, isn't it truly the spirt of H&M to offer high fashion looks at affordable pricing, or did I miss the memo completely?
