REGIS PHILBIN IN TORONTO FOR "HOW I GOT THIS WAY"

Television Icon Regis Philbin made a rare visit to Toronto today to promote his latest Memoir from HarperCollins Canada, How I Got this Way, released mid-November. Philbin dishes on some behind-the-scenes Stories of his storied Career and some of the lessons he's learned along the way since the '60s when he  first entered the Entertainment Business.

In addition to promoting his Book via various outlets like CTV's Canada AM and eTalk, plus CBC's George Stroumboulopoulous Tonight on Q Radio, Philbin met some of his Fans tonight at a Indigo Manulife Centre Book Signing.

On his recent Exit from Live! With Regis and Kelly, Philbin told CBC Radio Personality Jian Ghomeshi today, "28-and-a-half years doing the same thing, in the same room...it's enough to drive a man crazy." After many successful years on the popular Morning Talk Show, Philbin left the Show on November 18, 2011. Many Insiders are saying that Who's the Boss Star Tony Danza is now set to replace him alongside Kelly Ripa.  We'll soon see.

An energetic and youthful 80 years-old, Philbin looked dapper earlier today in a gray Suit, stopping to pose for a quick Photograph. "I've gotta run and do eTalk!", he told me before pulling me over commandingly, "Alright, let's get this Photo done!".  I've met many Icons in my life, but this truly is someone worthy of the often-used term.

As sadly we saw Regis Philbin exit Live! With Regis and Kelly last Friday, many of us already are missing the Television Icon as Producers are now on an all-out search for someone capable of filling his big shoes. Fret not though, as  Philbin will be in Toronto soon for his upcoming Memoir How I Got this Way from HarperCollins Canada.  And you thought Retirement was about slowing down!

Philbin's Memoir is described as follows:

"Regis Philbin has regaled Television audiences with his stories for more than 50 years, but he's saved the most hilarious, surprising, heartfelt and inspiring tales for now. Philbin will be at Indigo Manulife Centre on Tuesday, December 6, 2011 at 7:00 PM and his arrival surely will bring some December Cheer to a City which certainly has lacked Star Power of late.  Toronto, get ready to roll-out our Red Carpet for a Legend!

"LIVE! WITH REGIS & KELLY" TO BE RE-BRANDED "LIVE! WITH KELLY"

How perfect was her timing?  Kelly Ripa had it down-pat when she decided to dress-up as Kim Kardashian on yesterdays taping of Live! with Regis & Kelly.  Guest Co-host Nick Lachey standing on stilts, was dressed as Kris Humphries, all falling on the day that the World was made aware of the just-married Couple's impending Divorce.

And is it also pure coincidence that Jessica Simpson, former-Wife of Lachey, confirmed her Pregnancy (Father: Eric Johnson) to the World via Twitter yesterday too?

With TV Icon Regis Philbin set to make his Departure from the long-running Show (began in 1983) on Friday, November 18, 2011 in what will be an emotional moment, it also was just announced that it will be re-branded as Live! with Kelly.  A  permanent a new Co-host is still being sought to fill Philbin's shoes. 

The first Celebrity Guest Co-host confirmed for November 21-23, 2011 is Jerry Seinfeld, a good Friend of Ripa's.

REGIS PHILBIN ANNOUNCES RETIREMENT

2011 will mark the end of an era not only for Daytime Television Great Oprah Winfrey, but also veteran Regis Philbin who has just announced his departure from ABC's widely-syndicated LIVE! With Regis & Kelly this year.  This will mark his 28th year on the Show, which has seen several co-hosts including Kathy Lee Gifford and currently Kelly Ripa.  Philbin will be leaving later this year.

Staying in good humour Philbin joked, "There is a time that everything must come to an end for certain people on camera — especially certain old people!".

He definitely will be missed and there still are no announcements to whom will be filling those big shoes belonging to Philbin.  This announcement comes as no surprise as health problems including Heart Surgery (2007) and a Hip Replacement (2009) have kept Philbin away from hosting duties recently.  And besides, the Man is 79 years-old, he deserves to retire!  Kudos - a legend.
