KRISTEN BELL & HER SLOTH SURPRISE

Melon the Sloth & Kristen Bell

EPIC! I cannot stop watching this Clip as I am overcome with happiness for Actress Kristen Bell, who recently on her 31st Birthday had her lifelong wish come true of interacting with a Sloth. Her Husband Dax Shepard surprised her, she tells Ellen DeGeneres. "My entire life I had been waiting to interact with a Sloth", she reveals.  Being the emotional type, Bell says "I'm crying if I'm too sad, I'm crying if I'm happy".

As it turned out, Melon the Sloth stayed for Bell's entire Birthday Party in her a cage, playing in her own jungle gym.  How amaze.  Love them Sloths!

SCREAM 4 - MOVIE REVIEW

You’ll laugh, you’ll scream. Although many were satisfied with Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell) emancipating herself from the deadly Ghostface Killer in Scream 3, Director Wes Craven goes above and beyond for Fans in this latest installment of his wildly-successful Horror Franchise, Scream 4 (stylized as Scre4m).

Sidney returns as the celebrated Heroine of Woodsboro, in-town promoting her Memoir. Reuniting with good Friends Sheriff Dewey (David Arquette), Gale (Courteney Cox) and her distant Cousin Jill (Emma Roberts), she soon realizes that Ghostface Killer is still in her wake after receiving a bloody warning. And not only does he want to hurt those around her. This time he really, really, really, really wants Sidney dead.

Anyone familiar with the Scream Franchise should come to expect a certain level of camp and implausibility. Craven clearly is out to cater to the un-weak hearts of Fans. Filled to the brim with appearances from Girl-Next-Door cameos from the likes of Lucy Hale, Aimee Teegarden, Shenae Grimes, Anna Paquin, Kristen Bell and more, it’s clear which demographic is being targeted with Scream 4.

Don't Answer The Phone. Don't Open The Door. Don't Try To Escape B*tches, 'cause The Ghostface Killer is back!! Toronto will be giving one of its greatest Heroines a warm welcome home as our v. own Neve Campbell will be back at the end of the month to promote Wes Craven's Scream 4.

After a ten-year hiatus, Sidney Prescott (Campbell) seems to be well on her way to recuperating from the trauma she witnessed at Windsor College. Little does she know though The Ghostface Killer is still hot on her trails.  SCRE4M also stars orignal Cast members Courtney Cox and David Arquette, in addition to Adam Brody, Kristen Bell, Emma Roberts and Hayden Panettiere.

SCRE4M will be released in Canada through Alliance Films on April 15, 2011.  Watch its Trailer in full here.  Welcome back, Neve!

BURLESQUE MOVIE REVIEW

It certainly had the recipe for greatness, but these Cookies were packaged half-baked. How is it possible to put together a Cast with so much presence as the likes of Cher, Eric Dane, Alan Cumming, Stanley Tucci, Kristen Bell and megastar Christina Aguilera, yet still come up with a final product as unremarkable and forgettable as Burlesque? First-time Director/Screenwriter Steve Antin appears to have to pulled off the unfathomable.

Ali (Aguilera) is a Waitress, fed-up with her dead-end Waitressing job at a Diner where her Boss is behind in payments to her. She quits, leaves town (and that Iowa accent!) and finds herself on the Sunset Strip, wandering into a Burlesque Club, where she is seduced by the glamour of the Girls on stage. So enamoured, she finds herself pleading to Club Owner Tess (Cher) for a job, settling even as a Waitress. Before we know it, magically she knows the Choreography for all the numbers in the Girls' repertoire, forcing her way into an Audition and wowing both a skeptical Tess and Gay confidante/Costume Maker Sean (Tucci) who "couldn't keep his eyes off her."

All is not well in the world of Showgirls Burlesque, as jealous rival Nikki (Bell) doesn't take kindly to the Troupe's newest member with all the attention she receives. Wealthy Businessman Marcus (Dane) is taken aback by Ali's talent and beauty, while at the same time wanting to buy out Tess' Club, using the land for Condominiums as he is fully aware that her Club has seen more successful days, nearing Foreclosure. Ali finds herself caught also in a bit of a love triangle between herself, wealthy suitor Marcus and also temporary roommate Jack (Cam Gigandet) who also happens to be an aspiring Songwriter and a Bartender at the Club. Although Ali brings the Club some much needed success through Song and Dance, is this turn of fortune coming too late? And who will Ali choose as her Lover: Marcus with his suspicious motives or Jack, who can't seem to decide what he wants in life?

Let's be honest about it - Burlesque really upset me. Although many will be quick to point the finger at her, the Film's shortcomings aren't entirely the fault of first-time Actress Aguilera; in fact, she does a v. credible job here actually.  Her weakness only shows in quieter moments, struggling to evoke pain and disappointment.  But even her most committed performance isn't enough when the material she is working with isn't fully fleshed-out. It is particularly baffling that even by the end of the Musical, we don't find that we know anything about Ali other than that out of nowhere, she possesses remarkably refined talents. She becomes the Star of the Club, but then what? We witness no challenge or vulnerability in her rise to success other than a couple cruel jabs from Nikki, who conveniently keeps popping-up despite being told she is no longer welcome at the Club. The romantic story lines between Ali and her two suitors lack any trace of passion. She seems about as enthused about these two devastatingly handsome hunks as a raging Lesbian in a Men's Locker Room.

YOU AGAIN REVIEW

You Again

Let's face it - You Again isn't the type of movie that wins Critics over, but if there's such a thing as fluff done right, this would be the gold standard. Marni (Kristen Bell) is an ugly duckling turned lovely and successful business woman, but her feelings of insecurity are awakened once again upon realizing that her older brother Will (James Wolk) is about to wed her teenage nightmare Joanne (Odette Yustman). The story is multi-layered though, as we realize that upon the bride and groom's families meeting for the first time, that Joanne's aunt Ramona (Sigourney Weaver) and Will/Marni's mother Gail (Jamie Lee Curtis) actually were BFFs gone sour back in the day. With the Wedding Day approaching rapidly and unresolved tensions mounting between both Joanne and Marni and also Ramona and Gail, we wonder if everything will culminate in a big disaster as hidden secrets rise to the surface at the absolute worst time.

If you weren't sold on Kristen Bell yet, this is the film that will have her winning your heart as the vulnerable girl who never really grew up. Never for a moment do we stop rooting for her even when her character goes through its most dramatic transformation. Her chemistry with arch-nemesis Yustman is explosive and at the same time she is equally convincing as the protective sister as she is the daughter who needs approval. And need I mention the masterful comedic work of Curtis and Weaver? Curtis' cheerleading sequence will have you on the floor and her clumsiness makes us recall the memorable work she displayed in True Lies. Weaver is pitch-perfect as a catty show-off who never ceases to get rid of that chip on her shoulder. And although they are mostly in the wings, Canadian Victor Garber as Marni's father and Betty White as her grandmother provide perfectly positioned bits of laughter. Kristin Chenoweth is delightful as the over-the-top Wedding Planner too.  Above all else, Hall & Oates even make a cameo!

JAMIE LEE CURTIS AND SIGOURNEY WEAVER'S MATCHING DRESSES AT YOU AGAIN PREMIERE

Two funny.  Jamie Lee Curtis and Sigourney Weaver play High School rivals reunited by the marriage of Curtis' daughter and Weaver's niece.  Curtis' daughter, played by Kristen Bell, was bullied by Weaver's soon-to-wed  niece (Odette Yustman) and Bell goes on an all-out campaign to make her brother see the true colours of the woman he is about the marry.  And so the fire is reignited.   

To poke fun at a scene in their new movie You Again where they by chance wear the same dress, both Curtis and Weaver wore matching David Meister dresses again to the Hollywood premiere of the movie at El Capitan Theatre.

Disney's You Again hits theatres today.  A must-see.

FILM REVIEW: WHEN IN ROME

Although its premise is completely ridiculous, Mark Steven Johnson's (Daredevil) romantic comedy When in Rome delivers some memorable laughs, accomplishing just what it sets out to do.  Its star Kristen Bell, known primarily for her turn on television cult hit Veronica Mars, is still proving that she is a bankable film actress and thus far, she seems to be planting her seeds in the right gardens.  She has already starred in Box Office hits like Forgetting Sarah Marshall and Couples Retreat. She is now working on Christina Aguilera and Cher-headlined musical Burlesque, due this fall. 

Bell plays Beth, an art curator who is married to her work.  Her younger sister Joan (Alexis Dziena) meets a handsome Italian, Umberto (Luca Calvani), and decides to marry him on a whim.  This results in Beth having to fly to Rome for the impromptu wedding, where she meets the strapping Nick (Josh Duhamel), the Best Man at the wedding.  Failing to fit in at the wedding, Beth gets discouraged and wanders out to a fountain as if this were Fellini's La Dolce Vita, where she picks up some tossed coins belonging to men who have wished for love.  As legend would have it, such an act would result in these men falling in love with the woman who claims their coins.  Hence, five coins = five not-so-secret admirers.  Beth however, only has feelings for one of them and that would be Nick.
