Best Site ever for a Movie! With only a week to go till its release, Rom-Com A Five-Year Engagement looks to take it all next weekend at the Box Office and if you haven't checked out its Blog, you must. They treat it literally as a Wedding Invitation Website (which all of us surely have seen at some point) with Tom (Jason Segel) and Violet (Emily Blunt) welcoming us in as their Guests. Their Engagement Photos are the best. Completely legit and one can just tell they had a blast working on this.

Things keep getting pushed-back for Tom and Violet as advancements happen in Violet's Career, Costume Parties with Tom dressing-up as a Bunny and Violet as Princess Diana, Violet getting Katnissed by a little Girl, and tons of Procrastination. They get serenaded even by Alex (Chris Pratt)!  Ultimately, what we have here is the most endearing Trailer!

"SALMON FISHING IN THE YEMEN": MOVIE REVIEW

Emily Blunt, Ewan McGregor & Mr. Will-W.

Propositioned with the outlandish task of bringing Salmon Fishing to the Highlands of Yemen, a respected Fisheries Scientist named Alfred Jones (Ewan McGregor) is called upon by Political Spin Doctor Patricia Maxwell (Kristin Scott Thomas) to do what seems impossible, in an attempt to better international relations between Britain and the Middle East.  Fred is teamed with a beautiful Consultant named Harriet Chetwode-Talbot (Emily Blunt), acting on behalf of mystical Sheikh Muhammad (Amr Waked), who is ready to fund the £50 million endeavour.

On the verge of a Divorce, Alfred commits himself completely to the assignment while soon developing affections for his Colleague.  This of course is complicated by the fact that Harriet's Boyfriend is sent off to War only three weeks into their passionate relationship, with her being faced with the reality that she might have to move on without him.  All the while, she too develops a deep connection to the charmingly humourless Alfred which extends beyond their being "fishes out of water" in the desert.

Director Lasse Hallström hits all the right notes with Salmon Fishing in the Yemen, striking that fine balance that appeals to Intellect, Emotion and of course, our Funny Bones.  The Satire is equal parts plausible through some great Storytelling, as it is a true Romance due to the stunning on-screen chemistry between McGregor and Blunt.  The latter in particular, delivers a stunning multi-layered performance which sees her pared from down from someone bearing a tough exterior in her work life, to being a vulnerable Woman hopelessly in love; immensely honest and human.  Kudos also to the always brilliant Scott Thomas who gets to exercise her seldom-seen comedic chops to hysterical results, commanding our attention unceasingly.

It's certainly a catch.  Alliance Films releases Salmon Fishing in the Yemen on March 9, 2012.

MERYL STREEP CELEBRATED AT "KENNEDY CENTER HONORS"

Meryl Streep - 34th annual Kennedy Center Honors

The Kennedy Center Opera House in Washington hosted its 34th annual Kennedy Center Honors, paying tribute to five individuals who have made great cultural contributions to America. Honorees this year include Sonny Rollins, Yo-Yo Ma, Barbara Cook, Neil Diamond and of course The Iron Lady herself, Meryl Streep.

The actual Gala took place earlier this month on Sunday, December 4, 2011 and one night prior, the Honorees received their Medallions from Senator Hillary Rodhmam Clinton.

During tonight's Broadcast, a tearful and appreciative Streep watched on from her balcony as she was serenaded to a tune of "She's Me Pal" by The Devil Wears Prada Co-star Anne Hathaway - complete with the splits - sounding noticeably improved due likely to preparations for her upcoming Role as Fantine in Tom Hooper's Les Miserables.  The Musical Drama is slated for a December 2012 release and production will begin soon. 

Friends and Co-stars Kevin Kline, Emily Blunt and Robert DeNiro also paid tribute to Streep. As her introduction stated succinctly, "By disappearing into her roles, Meryl Streep has made the World visible to us".

EMILY BLUNT & EWAN MCGREGOR AT TIFF 2011 WITH "SALMON FISHING IN THE YEMEN"

Not quite sure what happened with my Camera there, but I will not complain as after four tries to get a Photo with the talented and magnetic Emily Blunt, I finally made it happen.  And she was a total Sweetheart about it, catching her out partying in Entertainment District this evening.

The lovely Brit is in the City for two titles at TIFF 2011: Your Sister's Sister and Salmon Fishing in the Yemen and I am hearing the latter especially, co-starring Ewan McGregor is quite good. McGregor lent his support even by showing up to the Premiere of Your Sister's Sister.

THE ADJUSTMENT BUREAU - MOVIE REVIEW

The first telling sign of a troubled Film always is multiple delays with its release and The Adjustment Bureau is no exception to that rule. David Norris (Matt Damon) is a charismatic, young Politician who has everything going for him until his aspirations are derailed by a Photo Scandal. He has a chance to change it all though with secret forces known as The Adjustment Bureau, working behind-the-scenes to change his Fate. Doing so however would result in him not being together with the one Woman he loves most, a Ballet Dancer named Elise (Emily Blunt).

Finding that the forces of nature cannot help but pull them together, David is stuck between being passionately in love and  both he and Elise never realizing their full potentials, which would mean that success in their careers would be compromised.  Realizing this, David yields to The Adjustment Bureau's advice to stay away from Elise who has the potential of becoming a world-class Dancer, but ultimately he realizes that he cannot do without her.  Is it too late though?  Will the Bureau succeed in keeping David from Elise?

On paper, The Adjustment Bureau would appear rather heartfelt and visceral, but it gets lost in all of first-time Director/Screenwriter George Nolfi's Science Fiction-lite which try to elevate it beyond what The Adjustment Bureau truly is.  Despite all the undertones of Free Will winning over Pre-destiny in a debate as old as Time, this still is a Love Story - what Nolfi should have stuck with.

TIFF DAY 10 - COCO CHANEL & IGOR STRAVINSKY AND MOTHER & CHILD REVIEW

Although TIFF is now officially wrapping up, there is still plenty of excitement in store as some of the most buzzed films receive their final screenings. I caught director Jan Kounen's Coco Chanel & Igor Stravinsky this morning at Scotiabank Theatre and it is wonderful. Everything from the set design, costumes, acting and directing were amazing. The film recounts a little-known about love affair that had occurred between the famous designer and composer during the years they collaborated together on Stravinsky's The Rite of Spring concerts.

Stravinsky and his wife Katia who is ill with Tuberculosis, are invited to move into Chanel's luxuriant villa where their passionate affair ensues. The chemistry between Anna Mouglalis (Chanel) and Mads Mikkelsen (Stravinsky) is electric and the film is chalk full of fearless love scenes. I was expecting a bit more focus on the music and fashion seeing that this is a story about two of the 20th century's greatest icons and didn't learn much about their creative processes, but nonetheless I was very satisfied still. The film will be distributed by Sony Pictures Classics, although there is no set release date; it is not to be confused with another biopic Coco Avant Chanel starring Audrey Tautou coming out on October 2, 2009. Grade: A

During the Q&A we learned that Mikkelsen apparently is not at all fluent in French nor is he proficient in his piano playing, although he sure fooled me. I was able to snap this gratuitous photo of Mikkelsen on his way out of the theatre:

After hearing about the growing buzz surrounding Rodrigo Garcia's Mother & Child, I decided to check out its final screening at Ryerson Theatre. The film features an all-star female cast headed by Annette Bening (Karen), who gives her daughter up for adoption after having her at age 14. Her daughter Elizabeth is a lawyer played by Naomi Watts who engages in an affair with her boss Paul, played by Samuel L. Jackson. Kerry Washington is Lucy, who has difficulty getting pregnant and the story ties together the lives of these very different women. Mother & Child raises the importance of ceasing opportunities and the consequences of not doing so. The acting is superb from all three principal actresses and there is a good amount of Oscar buzz generating for this film including a vote from critic Roger Ebert. Grade: B+
