It was just announced yesterday that two of Canada's biggest Film Distributors are now one. Alliance Films will be purchasing Maple Pictures for a total $38.5 million, effectively handling its releases in Canada for U.S.-based Lionsgate Films.
Alliance Films' President Charles Layton states in a Press Release, "This transaction combines two extraordinary Distributors in Canada and strengthens the distribution infrastructure we offer to our content partners. We’re thrilled to add Lionsgate’s new Films and very large, renowned library to Alliance. We look forward to working with the entire Lionsgate Team in the years to come.”.
In addition to having its own roster of high-profile Films including Oscar candidate The Ides of March (Ryan Gosling, George Clooney) this Fall, Alliance will now be handling eagerly-awaited new releases such as Warrior (Tom Hardy), Abduction (Taylor Lautner), Our Idiot Brother (Paul Rudd), Drive (Ryan Gosling) and 2012's first installment of The Hunger Games (Jennifer Lawrence). Tyler Perry's wildly-successful Madea Franchise also is handled in Canada by Maple Pictures.
Hopefully the organizational shuffles won't be too dramatic, as we love our Friends at Alliance Films and Maple Pictures v. much!
