Bravo to Cate Blanchett, who in addition to being one of the most brilliant Actresses in Hollywood, is also a dedicated Environmentalist, Thespian and Creative Director for the Sydney Theatre Company. The Company just launched its cutting-edge solar powered rooftop installation yesterday, the second largest of its kind in Australia, and both Blanchett and husband Andrew Upton were there as part of the festivities. It is said that over 70% of the venue's power supply will now be solar.
The couple have issued this statement: "Theatre has always been a place to stimulate visionary conversations and practical action. Now that this immense solar array is operating here at Sydney Theatre Company, we hope it will inspire others, including the hundreds of thousands of people who pass through the Company each year, to take their own steps in tackling the challenges of climate change". Blanchett will soon begin production on Peter Jackson's The Hobbit as Galadriel.
