It was everything I thought it would be! Veteran comedic actress Betty White hosting SNL is one of the show's greatest highlights of all time. The show's premier ladies all returned for the Mother's Day episode this evening including Molly Shannon, Amy Poehler, Maya Rudolph, Tina Fey, Rachel Dratch and Anna Gasteyer.
It amazes me that at 88 years old, White can host a show at 11:30 PM while at a third of her age, I could hardly stay awake! She was amazing, flawless and a great sport in all the self-deprecating humour.
Highlights of tonight's show included:
-White's opening speech where she thanked Facebook for getting her this big opportunity, but then went on to joke how she doesn't get what it's all about and it being a big time waster
-White appearing on a dry-humoured radio show skit about Fiber, loaded with sexual innuendos about her "Muffin" with Anna Gasteyer and Molly Shannon
-White as MacGruber's (Will Forte) Nana, taunting him about embarrassing matters like his purported Breast Reduction. Finally she engages in a romantic kiss with him in an unexpected turn of events.
-Appearing as an investigator on a mock version of the CSI franchise, called CSI: Sarasota which poked fun at her age and how humorous it would be for her to solve crimes with her physical limitations
-Maya Rudolph impersonating Whitney Houston hilariously on The Weekend Update, struggling her way through a song. "The voice is back!", she proclaimed. Spot on.
-Musical guest Jay-Z performed a version of Forever Young with vocalist Mr. Hudson and fittingly paid tribute to White, dedicating his performance to her.
-a hilarious music video where the cast serenaded White with The Golden Girls theme song before she donned a Balaclava hat and the video turned violent with a Death Metal version of the song
Perfect! I know it's silly of me to go on about it, but this little gift from Ms. White herself means so much to me. I've totally framed and hanged it already! *gush*
It's a Happy Mother's Day, indeed. Happy Mother's Day, Moms!
