CBC Radio's most prolific radio host Andy Barrie will be retiring officially today. He was the long-time host of Toronto's top-rated program Metro Morning. The program will now be hosted by Matt Galloway, also a great guy. I have had the honour of being featured on his program twice as an interviewee and performer. I can say that Barrie was an absolute inspiration and a ray of light who did his best to keep his program light and entertaining.
I remember asking him how it was that he managed to wake up at 4 am every day to prepare for his show and he replied simply to me, "It's no big deal after a while when you love what you do!". Barrie was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease in 2007 and announced his impending retirement earlier this month. He will be remembered for his outstanding contributions to radio broadcasting. Wishing you all the best, Andy.
