It is a sad day for those of you who use Bit Torrent Peer-to-Peer File Sharing platform Mininova. In a statement issued on its website, it is indicated that Mininova will be limiting its services strictly to content distribution only, i.e. artists looking to distribute their work with other existing users of the site.
Despite its efforts to create a filter to restrict certain titles (i.e. film, album, television show, software) from being shared on its site, it was found that there was no foolproof method of ensuring that filter's effectiveness. This decision is being made in compliance with a ruling made August 2009 by the Dutch Court of Utrecht which deemed Mininova unlawful. It would be interesting to see what the MPAA and RIAA have to say about temporary file storage sites like Mediafire, Yousendit, Zshare, Hotfile, Sendspace, Megaupload, Rapidshare.... ad nauseam.
That's so sad. Mininova was THE ONE!
